Ok, here we go with one of my mini trips. I found myself Saturday (11/11/06) afternoon with chores done and no wife around. So, I decided I needed a small trip.

I went to the gas station in Greenwood to top off my tank. Then I headed out on out of town on Hwy 10 east. The air was crisp and cool. Most of the trees have turned their colors, but not the sumacs.
Their leaves where a dark red colors.

Drove awhile until I reached the 252 junction. There I turned west and headed towards Huntington. I have been on this road before in a truck, but never a bike. There are some flat areas, but there are also some real tight twisties. Also there is one long sweeper as well. I was running down this road at speed limit and having a blast. There are a lot of farms in this area. So, I smelled everything from chickens, cows, and burning wood. Plus, I even got the chance to smell pines. It has been awhile scene I have been in the woods.

When 252 ended just north from Huntington, I turned south to Huntington. At Huntington, I turned west again on 252. I know this area well. This section takes you through some wooded area and strip mines. At one time there was over 100,000 people here in the early 1900’s mining. Just like Greenwood, who is using underground mines that filled with water for a water source. The coal is wet coal, because of the water content. I will quit the history lesson. The scenery was as good as always.

When 252 ends at Hwy45, I turned south to Hartford. The road has a few good twisties in it. Then hwy45 dead ends into 96/(83 OK), I turned west again and went into OK. This section is flat, but speed limit is 65 there. There is a lot of pine forest in this area. This road comes out just south of Poteau, OK.

When I reached this intersection. There was some traffic here. Up to this point I have may have seen 25 cars/trucks/tractors/motorcycles all together. I headed north on Hwy59 into Poteau. I stopped got a drink and a candy bar (big no-no for me! I am a type 2 Diabetic). Talked to few other bikers there for awhile. It was good just sitting there and watching the world go bye. After about 30 minutes, I headed out of town on hwy112 north. I rode on this big stretch of flat top for about 7 miles.

That was when I felt my on call beeper vibrate. What a way to make a bummer on this trip. So, I pulled over to see who was paging. It turned out to be my wife. I called and asked what was up. Of course, I got where are you at question. Being the smarta@# I am, I told her I was at home, in the garage. “Yea right, where do you think I am standing!” was her reply. “Oh, then you are next to me then”. The talk got colorful then. After getting her calmed down, I told her where I was and offered her a peace offering. I started up headed to Rock Island, OK and junction 120.

When I reached the intersection. I stopped at the gas station and picked up $10 worth of scratch-offs (OK Lotto). First peace offering for my wife. Then I drove back into AR. I stopped at the border town of Hackett.

Where I stopped in town is a wonderful country café. It is called ‘The Main street Café”. Just a small mom and pop dinner that makes fantastic food. Prices are just as good. (12oz ribeye with fixings and drink for $9.99.) My wife was waiting on me. The second peace offering. We ordered supper and talked awhile. I gave her the scratch-offs. Just my luck, she won a total of $124.00.
We sat there and talked and watched the first 30 minutes of the Hog’s game.

She followed me home to make sure I could remember where it was. You know anyone that rides makes the trip home a little longer. So, she was making sure I went straight home.

SO, there is my boring trip report. I have to remember to start caring a camera for pics.

I hope I did not bore you to much.

good report whitewolf, nothing boring about it.

i rode hwy. 10 this past summer on my ascot. i had my nine year-old daughter on the back. we rode down to tahlequah, did a float trip on the river, played at the waterslide for awhile, then rode back home, north on 10. it was a fun day. it was her first float trip and longest motorcycle ride up to that time. we've since done the talimena drive on a borrowed magna.

Ok here we go:
Ozarkbadit,
I have not been yet, but planning this spring to make a run and do the hwy 10 to 412 turnpike. I have read a lot about it. Plus, it is in my backyard, then again I count the whole western side of Arkansas in my backyard.Lol
jay547,
That trip of yours sounded like it was real fun. I wish my daughters where that age again. I know they would of loved taking trips with me.Inlove
But they are 22,21,and 18.
