For those of you who are interested in the 1098, I was wondering if you have inputs on these questions.

One dealer told me that the base model 1098 can also do the data acquisition (like the 1098S model) ... all you have to do is buy the USB data collector piece/software kit (for about $280) to capture the on-board data info.  Anyone else hear this or know anything about it?

Also, some of the pixs of the 1098 show what looks like a quasi passenger seat ... but I see no passenger foot pegs.  You think it will have provisions for a brave passenger?

The 1098... true to it's racing intent... is solo seat only... that pad serves as a butt stop...

Road Racing World is not specific about the data system, but does say it's an option on the low-end model but comes standard on the Tri-Color and S models. There is no mention that the dash is different for the standard model, so i believe your dealer is correct.

With a bike like that I'd definitely leave the chip at home when riding on the street......

My dealer said the usb chip is a $400.00 option from Duc.  It plugs into all the 1098s and records about 3 hours of riding.  Don't know about the rear seat, my wife doesn't ride.

According to this FAQ http://www.1098-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=552  the passenger seat comes with the bike, as do the foot rests, and a rear seat cowl.

I believe the data recorder can be added to the base model with parts from Ducati.
