Where's a good & inexpensive place near Maggie Valley and/or the BRP in that area?
We're looking around $50-60/night with safe parking. Nothing fancy required.

Stef, I would suggest you go to
www.vrbo.com
and peruse the listings 'till you find something you like there. Clark Howard likes that site and I've used it several times with great results.

Cool.
We're looking for something for just one night before we head north from there. Is that more of a long-term thing, or is it also good for just one-nighters?

Depends on the owner. You have to look closely through them, but there are a some REAL gems. Some owners will want you to spend 2 days, others, just one, and some will want you to reserve a week. The ad should say. Look first for ads that have a per night rate, that's your first clue, but keep an eye out for the words "two night min" or something to that effect...however, if you really like something, you can email them and they will usually bend the rules if they don't have other renters coming in...after all, they're just normal people getting some side income from their own get-away, not a company.
Don't forget to look at more areas than JUST "Maggie Valley." That would limit your choices too much and you might find something very close in a neighboring town.
I suggested this as I'm sure you know how to find hotels, and I think these areas are much nicer and more personable. If you feel like going all the way to the other side of Asheville, I know of a VRBO place that's cheap and nice in Old Fort. I stayed there one or two nights last year.

I really want to go to wheels through time, so we're looking for somewhere in the general area.
I'll look a little more closely tomorrow - Thanky!

There is a motorcycle resort and campground called Two wheels only, which is on 276 south of maggie valley. This one is about 15 to 30 minutes from an entrance to the parkway
Also the crossroads of time motorcycle resort as well as the Kickstand lodge which are about a wonderful's hour and a half away. these are at Deals gap.
U can also stay where I work at Nantahala outdoor center.

Do a google search for "madmaps" They're motorcycle specific for different areas showing lodging, routes, gas, all that good stuff.

Here is another possible choice for you. This place caters to the two-wheeled crowd and although I've never stayed there, I know people who have and recommended it quite highly. Shoot, where else can you get a motorcycle garage next to your motel room?

Suches is about 115 miles from Maggie Valley..
Tellico Plains is about 120 miles.. Just good day trip distance. I stayed in Tellico Plains last Friday and Saturday.. Saturday a group of us road to Maggie Valley and back.

Our plan is to ride up from suches on Thursday, stay somewhere in the area Thurs night, head up towards N. North Cackalacky Friday, ride shady valley & the area Saturday and start south again, return to Suches Sunday. So we're definitely looking between maggie valley and Asheville. Definitely no further west than Maggie valley.

Hey Stefrrr,
Do you guys have a place to stay in Suches? There is TWO, of course, but there are a few little cabins around there as well. I stayed here with a few friends. It was a nice little place.

Here are a few more options:

I hope you have a great time up there. Don't forget to ride Wolfpen Gap when leaving Suches...it is a blast.
Cheers,
Joe

This is a very nice place to stay. And I'm pretty sure it's very close to the Wheels of Time museum.

Stef,
There are plenty of hotels/motelsin the MV and West part of Asheville. I am sure you could find one just rollin through that area.
If you are in the area Friday call me. I am open for a ride. I would offer my house but i am going to Helen for the weekend.

Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground is a great place to stay. Support the folks that help to support the sport I say!
Lots of small motels in the Waynesville area to - which is just next to Maggie, and also down 19 in Cherokee. You should be able to find a nice little place to stay with no problem. There is a cool little place over in Dillsboro called the Mountain Brook Inn which is very motorcycle friendly.
