I swear to God there was a way to convert my downloaded track data and convert it directly to a route in Mapsource.
Anyone know if I've lost my mind? Can this be simply done?
I have a Garmin 2610.

Not sure, but one of these might work:

http://www.gpsu.co.uk/descrip.html
http://rjdavies.users.btopenworld.com/html/poiconverter.html
http://www.poiedit.com/index.htm
And remember, Google's your friend!

Thanks, but I was looking for something internal to Garmin's Mapsource software.
I thought I had converted a track to a route in their software, but I may be remembering doing that with my old Magellan Meridian unit.

It ain't your imagination, things really are that bad.
You need to massage the track into a route using something other than just MapSource and the 2610. Try this
link
from AdvRider and this
link
from GPSBabel.

Thanks RB. I had half a mind to just PM you the question since you are the local GPS guru.
Must have been my Magellan that did it. Or maybe I'm remembering stuff
that never happened.

Or... something you (and a lot of other folks) wish would happen.
The problem is I have a fuzzy recollection of seeing this trick done somewhere. But it may be my marine gear's ability to do this (for sure) that's confusing me.

The routes in Mapsource need waypoints....
You will need to follow your track and click in/create waypoitns and then make the route from those.
I beleive you are correct that the Magelian will make the coversion for you, I have not used my in quite a while.

Well, yeah, you can put down waypoints along a track to recreate the route but it's a less than elegant solution. There should be a "Click here to convert track to route" button. But, for MapSource... no joy. Feh.
