Here's what the catalog says:

"The green Kanetsu features TLTec1 fleece that packs down smaller. The blue Kanetsu is twice as thick 100% windproof TLTec2 Windblock fleece that packs a little bulkier, but wears a good amount warmer. "

Which one do you have? Would you rather have the other?
And, while I'm there, did you go for the vest or the liner? Weird combo of heated vest with unheated zipped-up arms?

Corbeau,

I went for the thin Kanetsu vest w/ zip off sleeves and electronic thermostat on closeout this summer. Under my two piece 'stich it's a good fit, convenient as the 15lbs I've gained since buying the suit in '99 allowing little room for layering. It's going along for a mid-October tour of Big Bend and some Mafra Lights viewing.  I have no doubt that it will be as effective as the Widder 'lectric vest I out-beer-gutted and the sleeve addition may reduce the bulk of carrying another layering garment. I've ridden in some fairly nasty conditions over the years and never felt that the added bulk and current draw of a full liner was necessary, but I live in Texas YMMV.

I have the heavyweight vest, and it is pretty thick. It does help with wind blockage.

My 'stich fits very snug, so not much room for layering, and the vest makes for a tight fit, but I do appreciate the added heat it provides.

Maybe you can find someone local who has one, of either type, and try it on for size.

Quality of mine is very good, no problems in the several years I've had it.

Corbeau,

My 'Stich vest burned out in under 2 years of very light SoCal useage.  It's gone in for warrantee service but suffice it to say I just wasn't happy with the shortened lifespan.

In the meantime I've purchased a Widder "Collar-Less" model.  Much better for me.

I'd probably go for the basic model and when needed ( below 55 deg. for me, I like to be warm) keep another vest /sweatshirt in a pack. can't go wrong either way, actually. Just having an el. Vest is the key.
