Hello everyone, this is my first post on the forum. I知 looking for engine technical specifications for late model BMW motorcycle engines but I知 a complete newbie when it comes to motorcycles so all that I know is what I read on Wikipedia. Anyway, can someone point me to where I can find some detailed technical specs on a modern BMW flat-twin motor with overhead cams? I知 looking for things like crankshaft journal diameter, connecting rods weights and lengths etc. TIA.

Well, you are truly going to have a miserable search.  BMW flat twins (aka, Boxers) don't use overhead cams.

Yeah they are more like mid-head cams with a very short pushrod.   Lol

Ok, does anyone know if the Clymer manual for the R-Series oilhead motors have the specs I'm looking for?

You can get pirate copies of the factory manuals on ebay for cheap.  They'll have all the dimensions.

Just curious... but what is your need is for that level of detail on the motor?  Doing some type of engineering project?  Or comparing different types of motors?

Just curious... but what is your need is for that level of detail on the motor?  Doing some type of engineering project?  Or comparing different types of motors?

Some people put the R1100S engine in small airplanes; I wonder if he might be trying the same with a R1200S engine? (Or the new HP2 Sport engine?)

Cool.  I imagine it's flat torque curve and high inertia is ideal for turning a propeller at a range of RPM's without it stalling and it's layout would make it easy to mount and drive a propeller since the tranny is a seperate case from the tranny.  More reliable without liquid cooling too.  Bigok

I've seen either portable water pump for fire departments using a R1200 engine.  Pretty cool.

I was wondering if he was building a small oepn wheel race car or something.
