The Buell Riders Club Australia INC has a two day ride set for November 17 and 18, in which we will meet up with some of the Australian Buell Riders forums.  So far it looks like there will be twenty something from Buell Riders Australia, and another 40 from the forums.  We are not planning 60 bikes together for the whole weekend, just a meet with a combined run through the mountains, probably on a section of the Great Alpine Rd.

Wow!  60 Buells all at once?  That's about twice as many Buells as I've ever seen in my life...around here, I only know about two others...never met the owners...one I see parked quite often in the same spot, the other was being sold 2nd hand at a local Honda shop (that one I've seen on the road once only in the past three years I've had mine).  Other than that, mine is it...

BTW, have fun on the ride, mate!

Thanks for the good wishes mate.  I'll think about you while I'm riding.

Unfortunately I will only do a day run, so I'll miss the ride with 60.  I have a track course booked on the Sunday, and it would be January before I could do the next one if I cancel.

Day one of the Alpine ride isn't a gimme either.  I've a 1500km ride on for the weekend before and the family has threatened to veto my club run.  A little bit of negotiation is still required, but I should get there.

There were only 50, and on Saturday night we were with about 20kms of each other, but we didn't all manage to ride together.

The event was like an inauguration for the club.  We celebrated the start of the club on the Saturday night with the support of Heavy Duty Magazine, and the presence of Harley Davidson Australia who were there in an unofficial capacity to wish us well.   To add a bit of interest they brought an X1125R along, but they forgot the petrol.

I've added a pic of Domino enhancing the X1125R.  It is rare for her to be side-saddle on a bike.  So far she has put 59,000 km on her 2006 Firebolt.  She claims the club's biggest blockie (around the block for the sake of a ride - in case it doesn't translate from Australian) Victoria, South Australia, Alice Springs (in the Northern Territory), NSW and back to Victoria.  That's a big block: pushing 5,000 km on gravel and bitumen.

The roads through the Great Alpine Road are a bit too twisty, so we all had a good ride.  I think we got to most places ahead of schedule.  We currently have 24 members, and discussions are underway with interstate groups of Buell riders that could see the club double.  Its a shame I don't have pics of 60 Buells.  Hopefully that is not a long way off.

Hey Bueller,

I caught up with some of your group at the Caltex at Bright on Sunday morning.
I'm not sure which one you are but I was the 1st one who walked over & introduced myself. We actually pulled into Dinner Plain before you got there so missed all your action up there & as we had done about 300km's on the Saturday (Bright over Hotham to Omeo then another 50km past there & return) we were a bit too stuffed to ride back up to Hotham that night plus I wasn't about to ride back to Bright in the dark on that road.

Anyway it was good to catch up with some of your group.

Just twisty enough Thumbsup

Cheers,

Hey Aussie XB12SS,

I was meant to be back early so I left Dinner Plain at around 4:30 am.  I rode virtually the whole way across Mt Hotham in dense cloud.  Most difficult conditions I think I've encountered.  Don't ask me what the road looks like.  I couldn't see both of the yellow lines marking the lane at the same time.  Visibility was less than 1.5 metres.  I put the front wheel off the road on one particularly sharp curve. At times I was waiting for a broken line so that I knew what side of the road I was on.

I would have gone through Bright at about 6 am, and then I ended up breaking down (broken fuel line) just outside of Wangratta at 7am.  I came home in a tow truck, and not really early at all.  Thank you Harley Assist.

This is in on the Bonang highway.  Further east (east of the Snowy).  There are two gravel sections, both 7 or 8 kms each.  The north is easy, but the one south of Bonang is a bit more or a challenge.  The bitumen is fantastic - worth the effort.  Even more fun that the Great Alpine Rd.

Shame I missed meeting up with you.  Bones told me he met up with some of the riders in Bright, no doubt you were one.  It's also a shame you missed the fun at Dinner Plain.  We need to plan a joint run; try and get these 60 Buells together.  Hope to meet up some time.
