While looking at the date when the new models will arrive in Showroom floors (March - for all of them) I noticed that the R1200ST is due out in May...and it says it's a new launch.

Anyone hear of a new R1200ST?  If so, I think it would probably redesigned the headlight and left the rest of the bike alone.  I kinda liked it a ugly duckling kinda way.  The ST is a great bike if you can get past the headlight.  I hope they don't put the headlight from the GS/F800/RS/KRSport/KR on it.

Later.

Everything i've heard says it's the same bike, but with BNC (bold new colors). The only catch is that they must be special ordered if you want one.

I know of at least one person on the BMW Sport Touring board who has one on order. And the Austin TX BMW shop (Lone Star) has a couple on order for their showroom.

If you really hate the headlight, Wunderlich has a couple of replacement units that restyle it slightly. Think "two round holes" ala Ducati.

By bold new colors, they mean monotone schemes.  no fancy work.  The now defunct gray/blue will be cool in 5 years.  Really cool.

All,

From the BMW website: "Brake System BMW EVO".

Is that the new system, as described for the R1200R, or the servo brakes?
After seeing my bud wrestle w/ the fiddly servo brakes on his 03 K12GT that would be a deal killer for me.

If you look on the 'Available Equipment' listing the brakes are Integral ABS II, which is the same as listed for the R1200R.  I guess BMW chucked the servo assisted nonsense.  I miss my R1200ST.  Oh well, that one was a garage queen.

IMHO--the 1200ST has to be the ugliest bike BMW ever rolled off the assembly line. However--it is due primarily to the goofy headlight configuration.  They seem to have gone waaaaaaaaaaaay overboard with "hex" theme.  Headlights shaped like just about any other beemer would make it a whole lot more appealing.  Maybe even dual lights styled similar to the center portion of the front grill of their cars would look good.  Or one of the designs in the attached pics--anything but that butt ugly POS they have on it now.  Otherwise it is a damn fine looking bike with impressive specs & potential.

I had no issue with the headlight when I owned one, in fact, it was the best headlight (functionally) of any bike to ever grace my garage.

Now, the "gills"..... yeah, those have to go...

The ST is not changed. Non-servo brakes, and new colors. Why change what works. People get hung up about the headlight. I ride a lot at night. I live out in the country. The headlight is the BEST stock light I've EVER ridden behind in 30 years.
I ride mine everyday, hard. She see's 80-90 MPH indicated, everyday. If I don't go that fast I get runover on the freeway(75 MPH limit).

Cee Bailey shield, bar-backs, seat. Perfect.

It could be the best motorcycle in the world functionally but if not enough people are willing to spend the $15K or so to buy it then BMW will have to adapt it to be more appealing or it will die.  Even in its intro year the only record it probably set was slowest seller for an introductory year and that is in no small part because of the styling.

er... dunno, I think the K12R sold better than the ST did... and in hindsight my R12ST had a way better headlight, odd looking yes, but man was it bright.

The K12R could use the headlight... but it might make it ooogly!  get the feeling I like the ugly duckling..... Twofinger
