I’m not really new to riding, but I’ve been following STN for a few months and thought I might introduce myself.   I’ve owned a number of bikes in the past, but my current one is my 82’ GS1100E that I renovated this past fall.   I bought it new in “82, but parked it in my garage 13 years ago.  I recently finished replacing or reworking almost everything on the bike but the motor.  It looks and runs great now.

Since I kind of like the  STN “philosophy”, I’ve  been modifying my bike to be more of a sport touring machine.

But seriously, I’m not going to ride with a sheet of mylar taped to my instrument cluster, although it does look pretty good!   I have the Nelson Rigg Carbon tail pack, and I think I’ll add the matching tank bag soon.  I’m also looking to get National Cycle’s, Street Shield EX, with the quick mount system.  That should about do it for now.  I like to feel the wind most of the time, but for long rides, I hear the shield will reduce fatigue.  I’m not as young as I used to be.

Welcome and Hey!,  I like the box.  Easy access and not likely to be stolen.

Bit of weather proofing problem.  Could be a problem here in the PNW.

Welcome out of the shadows.  Beerchug

Nice bike ya got there. I like the way it looks with the windshield and yes, it will reduce fatigue on longer rides.

Btw; I would go with the all-purpose milk crate instead of the box; waterproof and less wind resistance.

Man that brings back memories. I owned a new 1982 GS850G for 3 years and 55,000 miles. I had the complete Vetteer setup on mine. The seat was by far the most comfortable stock seat I've ever had on a motorcycle. Sold the bike, showroom clean, to my best friend. Great pic & bike.

Thanks for the nice comments on the bike.  And thanks to the folks at http://www.thegsresources.com/ who gave me the courage and advice that allowed me to rebuild the carburetors, and several other pieces.    I’ve done nothing to it cosmetically so far, except a little light polishing of the left case cover .  But I've replaced all the wear items, as well as the wiring harness, R/R, shocks, fork springs, brake lines,....

I’m going to add the part time windshield and tank bag, along with grip heaters, so I can hopefully attend the WCRM in May.  Here's a link to another recent photo.  http://mysite.verizon.net/rest2a20/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/img_1163.jpg  and  http://mysite.verizon.net/rest2a20/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/img_mybike.jpg

I bought my second piece of luggage last week, and the windshield came today.  I now have my Sport Tourer Smile  Can't wait for WCRM IV!  I think this should do it.  I don't need much luggage, cause all I need for an over nighter is a motel reservation, my credit card, and a change of underwear.

Denydog, I see you have adding some farkles.  Did you get a chance to test out that windscreen today? To bad you did not have that Sunday for our 37 degree ride.  I ended up with 277 miles door to door.

That's a longer ride.  I managed 195.  I'm testing the windshield tomorrow.  Meeting up with a couple of guys from the other forum (GSResources) South of Bellevue just before noon.  We're probably going to do a quick valley loop from Redmond to Monroe.  I got a couple of roads to show them.  Supposed to be a really nice day tomorrow.

Be careful not to wheelie with a bungee tailpack.  Bad things can happen if those particular pieces aren't completely secure, like having them lock up your rear wheel and cause you to fall and go boom.

Nice bike.  I always wanted one of those - almost bought an 1150 in a crate for a song while in Japan but the old man wouldn't let me keep it on the ship for the ride home.

I wasn't aware that she was wheelieing at that instant. That throws it into a whole new light...

Thanks for reminding me.  I tried using a different hook point several weeks back, and another rider rode by me on the freeway, honking and pointing.  The pack was hanging by one bungee down along side the shock.  EEK!

Maybe I should use the shoulder strap as a safety strap, run under the seat, and cinched up tight.

Cool!  A Basic "Normal" bike.  Don't see that many around these day's.
BTW - I like the box.  My wife uses a wooden box of similar size for grocery shopping on her KLR.  The butcher always shakes his head when she stops for a flat of eggs on her bike!
(in the summer of course.  currently we've got several inches of @#$% snow!)
