We're planning a last ditch bombing run to Deals Gap on the last weekend of October.  Unfortunately the East Tennesee guys have taken all the rooms at the Deals Gap resort.  We're not there to do much but ride the the Dragon and Cherohola...the rest of the weekend we'll spend more toward Shady Valley and NC.  I don't need a dissertation about how there are better roads to travel...but thank you if you were so inclined. This part of our trip is strictly sightseeing the tourist spots for a couple of friends who have never been there.

As I said, we're not there to do anything but ride...we don't need nightlife, movies, or bars.  We have an enclosed trailer for the bikes.  What we are looking for is a place to shower and sleep in convenient proximity for a minimum of cash outlay.  Can you folks offer some suggestions along those lines?

Thanks!

Microtel Robbinsville.

Good prices, always very clean.  Thumbsup

Maggie Valley we stayed at the Jonathon Creek Inn. Nice, comfortable bed, clean rooms, fireplaces. We got a room with a hot tub. Very nice after riding in the cold rain.  Thumbsup Thumbsup

Try the Phillips Motel in Robbinsville.  Their rooms vary from $55 for one bed to $125 for a three bedroom 2 bath cottage.  Very clean and well run.

I've heard good things about them too. In fact, when we were at the (full) Microtel, they were referring people there.

Any of the motels in Townsend, TN are just a cruise over Foothills Parkway away.

We stayed at the Two Wheel Inn,  the rooms are pretty basic, but clean and comfortable.  The owners are very nice people, everyone we talked to up there was very friendly.  It was a great experience.  Plus the little garages for the bikes were really cool.

Microtel is good except for Freeda.

Freeda is a miserable old bitch that works some nights and will call the police on you for having beer. All the other staff are that I have interacted with were great though, and I have stayed there a lot.

Kick it up a notch - the BlueBoar Inn B&B in Robinsville is 5 stars to me and around $125 a night. Wife and I stay whenever we can - very quiet and great food - owners are French chefs!!!! Only down side is it's a 2 mile gravel road to get up the mountain - freaks the wife out a bit on the bike and it is a "couples" kind of retreat. Wasnt sure who you were riding with and all.....

Tellico Plains TN, is at the West end of the Cherohala.
Both of these campgrounds are motorcycle resorts and have cabins.

Although when I stayed at Hunts Lodge last month, they only had heat in one of the cabins.

Here is an overall, all areas, camping/lodging site.

The little one-story place on the OTHER side of the BBQ restaurant from the Microtel is just fine.  I like it and the price is better than Microtel.  Maybe it's the "Phillips?"  Robbinsville is so small that's probably it.

I must not of seen her cuz when we were there we sat on the front stoop (by all the bikes) with a trash can full of ice and many cold brews.  No one cared and it was a nice relaxing time.

I think I know the one you are talking about.  It is not the Phillips.  The Philips is up the hill, accros the street from the school.  The Phillps looks nicer than the one you are talking about but I would not have a problem staying there if the Phillips was full.

Ok, well whatever the name is, it's fine.  It's clean and the beds are good, and that's really all that counts.  The price is lower than the Microtel too.

I would recommend this place.  Its only about 2 miles from the dragon.   People are very nice and the Food is good.   Quiet beautiful place too!

You can't go wrong staying here.

I can't imagine that "ALL" of Fontana would be closed Headscratch  They are a very large "resort"  I use that term loosely.  It's not too bad I have stayed there for several years now, and will be staying at the COT this weekend.  Oh excuse me Deal Gap Motorcycle Resort.

We're planning a last ditch bombing run to Deals Gap on the last weekend of October.

Yeah OK, ya facker - come on down and don't invite the (newly) region 5-er's Twofinger

 Bigsmile

I am kinda tempted to crash yer shin-dig... although I was there only 1 1/2 weeks ago, those roads be contagious!! (Although I guess I AM a region 5 snob now - went to/hung out at Deal's Gap and didn't even run the Dragon EEK!)

 Cool

I've stayed at the Microtel and the Phillips Motel.  Both were acceptable.  The Phillips motel has rags you can use to wipe the dew off your bike in the morning.  I'd be wary of the little cafe across the street for the Phillips Motel.  I was less than impressed.

The place next door to the Phillips has been sold.  When I was up there over Labor Day the new managers had the place shut down for renovations.  Maybe they will improve things as I had heard the same story from others.  I have to admit there really arent any "good" places to eat in Robbinsville.

Thanks for all the replies.

Unfortunately, one of the bikes had some last minute mechanical issues, and too much time was lost in trying to rectify those problems.
We wouldn't have been able to get there and start any riding until Sunday morning, and then head home Monday.

Very disappointed, very angry...all this was simply a matter of maintainance.

Still, I've gained a renewed hatred for parts punks/mental midgets out of the situation.

Too bad. You missed a great weekend down there.  I went down Thursday evening/Friday morning and bombed the Skyway/Dragon loop, bought the t-shirt and stickers, had some BBQ and got about 8 hours sleep.  It was 70 and sunny!  Rode back to Michigan on Saturday morning; it was a bit cool leaving early in the morning, but the day improved as the sun came up.  Made it home in 9 hours.  Razz  The LEOs were still present in force on the Dragon.  Rolleyes  That reminds me.  I need to check Killboy for pics!
