FWIW I get around 60mpg +/1 a few and have always used regular gas in my 650R.  I realize there are some minor differences between the mapping of the engine and maybe the compression ratio but its a good comparison.

I am getting 60 plus or minus 1 or 2 depending on conditions, have gotten as high as 66 under favorable conditions.

I love this bike!!!!!!!!    Traded my 08 KLR in on it , it does really good on dirt and gravel roads, even with street tires. Compared to the KLR, it is a rocket ship.

I use my Versys for mountain rides and some backroad jaunts on gravel roads. The only highway use I get is getting to and from a fun road . I don't see much above 70 for any length of time.

When I want or need to see interstate speeds I get out the C-14 Smile

How is the Versys on the freeway?  Does the light weight get blown around, or is it pretty stable?

I,I've only Had mine for two weeks and 500mile, but it's been very windy several  days and I am amazed at how stable the Versys is. It seems to cut through the wind with little trouble. As for my mpg. I hope it gets better after break in, it's around 48mpg. now. bete..  PS, I,m really digging this bike!.

You have the standard shield or did you go with the optional taller one? Also I think your mileage will get better ,all my bikes got better once I had 2 or 3 k at min on them

I"m very interested to hear how this bike compares to the V-Strom 650.  I was certain I wanted a V-Strom 650 untill this bike arrived on the scene.  I've sat on a Versys, and it felt similar to the WeeStrom, but I'd love to hear from someone who's ridden both bikes.

I just bought the Versys. I have ridden the Wee strom, although not a whole lot. I think the power is very close to the same in both bikes, the Wee maybe has the edge, but probably not enough to tell by seat of the pants. Both make good torque down low, and lots of horsepower everywhere.

The Wee felt heavier and harder to ride in tight turns and on gravel roads. The Versys feels more nimble and lighter at slow speeds. Both felt good at highway speeds.

The Wee has a few things that help such as rear rack, and the after market has more things for the Wee, the Versys is a little too new.Tire selection for the Wee is better. As far as dirt tires that is.

Looks and seating comfort are personal preference, the Versys was better for me, and I liked the looks better, also the color.

I read as much as I could on the Versys, and most of the writers who rode both bikes liked the Versys better on dirt and gravel, and tight situations.

I think it boils down to whichever fits you the best, I don't think you can say one is "better" than the other.

I spent a lot of time agonizing over the two bikes, and the one that was the best for me was the Versys.I have ridden a lot of dirt and gravel roads, lots of mountain twisties, some interstate and two lane highway, and I could not be happier.

I made the right choice for me, good luck with yours.

Nice posting, august.   Bigok  Do you have any pics of your Versys?

I haven't ridden either one, but I would favor the Kawi for being more nimble than the Strom.

Guess what?  August was spot on. His reply was exactly what I would have said. I love the Versys, but the wee-strom would have been every
bit as fine a bike. Several minor differences, but both bikes excellent.
That said, my mileage has been 55-58 on regular unleaded. It runs just fine, and I can't detect any detonation. Of course I can't hear birds or rattlesnakes either. Anyway, for me, the difference was what felt to me like much less top heavyness with the Versys. Even tho the seat  is still too tall for my 5'8", I can touch the ground when I need to. By the way, I've got 1,150 miles or so on mine so far, so full throttle and high rpms are ok for a short spurt. It's got all the go that I need for sure. I
feel the same as August, as for the handling, is almost super moto style. Not like a real motard, but not bad either. Still it's very stable in
a fast sweeper, and plenty of torque  coming out of a corner. Fun bike.
I was in 6th gear, came down to 2200 rpm's, and rolled the throttle on,
it pulled right up thru to 100 mph, without a sputter or and lurching. It
didn't pull hard at the real low rpms, but it was a real shocker that it didn't buck and snatch at 2200 rpm's.....And Red is cool---------Click on pic to enlarge.     Almost a watercolor, no?

.I have ridden a lot of dirt and gravel roads,

This is what I like to hear. I want a Versys and think it would fit the kind of riding I like to do. 75% is on paved back roads  but I do like to explore the unpaved dirt roads in east Texas.

Thanks

400 miles on mine now, first 2 tanks of fuel have been 46 and 47 MPG. I haven't been easy on the throttle with mixed city and highway, so I know it can get 50 plus easy if I am going for range, but I am having too much fun with it right now.  Bigok
