Do you think that $8198 (out the door) is reasonable for an 06 VFR (new on showroom floor) or should I just get a 08? Finally decided on a new bike and the VFR won.

Looks good as far as NADA values go.   But its end of season....its going to be a model year older, so you might have a little more wiggle room.

Take it.  That's a fair deal for a new '06.

No changes to '08 VFR except color, and higher price.

Be REALLY sure that you want THAT bike before you buy it.  I had this happen to me when I purchased my KLR.  In the end, I wound up not wanting to sell my KLR, but had I not gone that direction, I would have lost money despite the bike being brand new because it was a model year old.  That makes a huge difference in resale until the bike gets around 5 years old.  You have to figure that other riders with the same bike who bought it when it was the current model year have already been paying on that bike for well over a year, and thus have more equity in it.

BUT, if you wanna keep it, for sure, that sounds like a fair price.

Johnny makes a good point about equity vs retail.

I figure they are selling you the bike sans taxes and fees for around $7200.  They've discounted the bike to account for its age.  But if push comes to shove, will you be able to sell it and break even without owing anything if you do so within a year?  In other words, can you sell it for $8,000 today?  That is what you need to be able to do so you don't owe anything if you decide to get rid of it within 12 months.

So make sure you plan to keep it at least 4-5 years.  If you are a smart buyer, you will keep it at least 5 years to get the most out of it and own it out right.  If you are a shopper and like to change bikes every few years like Johnny (kidding), you are better off buying a new '08, riding it for 3 years, then sell.  Then, you will owe nothing.

Of course all this doesn't mean anything if you are paying cash or putting a big down payment.

that's an incredible price, if you really want it, get it.   I've never seen an '06 priced like that.  I wouldn't worry about resale so much, bikes are pretty much always a losing proposition.  You would be nut's to think about getting an '08 for full retail, it's the SAME bike.
