Just thought I'd let non - coggers know about this - I've been building bevel drive units for the '86 to '06 concours that lower the rpms relative to road speed by 12%. The result is a bike that does about 4200 @ 80 as opposed to 4800, runs quieter, cooler, with obviously less "buzz" and gets better mileage to boot. I have a bunch of these units on the road now all over the country, and everyone has been very happy. I call this the "7th gear unit" - since every connie owner complains of looking for 7th gear! This unit does let you pull each gear to 12% higher speed, so it makes the bike surpisingly flexible when in the twisties, with less shifting and easier gear selection. I have to say that was a really nice side benefit, not one I was trying to get, but I'll take it!

I also do modified cam timing gears to optimize what K has not. The result is better low rpm torque with no hit to the top end. In fact, when coupled with the 7th gear unit, a connie so equiped will outrun a stocker - even starting at 12% less rpms!

The cost to build the 7th gear unit is 450.00, and includes a new gasket. I'll need your bevel drive unit, or I'll supply one and we'll do a core exchange. The cam sprocket is 70.00 for a new sprocket, or I can drill yours for 35.00

If anyone has any Q's ask away. Also feel free to come on over to the COG forum and ask others who have these units what they think. Thanks! Steve

I gotta say, it's very cool to see that kind of innovative work going on, no matter what bike it is.  Thumbsup

Bevel drive???  How cool is that...  Do you also offer the little clear sight windows like they had on old Ducs so you can see the gears?   Thumbsup

Cheers,

Joe

Steve,
How do I get ahold of you?  I'm considering your 7th gear mod for my 06 Concours.

It's not much to look at:

I did a full write up of the "fun" I had installing mine. Steve made himself available for any and ALL questions I had. My install was NOT normal. All the issues I had were NOT related to the bevel drive itself....
