2007 ZX6R - uh oh

I've read the reviews at Motorcycledaily and Motorcycle-USA.

It's heavier.  It's lost horsepower and torque compared to the 636.  It doesn't turn in as well as any of the other new bikes.  It is now 4th heaviest -- Triumph, Honda, and Yammie are all lighter.  It has less friendly ergos than the Honda.

So it's not as good on the street OR on the track as its competition?  Sounds like the CBR600RR might be an eligible replacement for my bike some day if it wasn't so darned expensive.  Over $9k for a 600!  

Do you think the GSXR750 would make a good sport-tourer?

Yup. My 636 does a fine job and I bet the 750 would be even better. The Gixxer 750 rocks. Local BMW/Ducati/Triumph shop just took a very clean one in on trade on a 999s. They only want $7200 for a 2006 with low miles and goodies on it. http://www.bmwpgh.com

Cycle World's.com preliminary write up says the new ZX6R may be the best 600 class sport bike out now.They said it pulls out of the corners better than any 6 they have ridden,and felt beter than the new CBR600RR,so go figure.

All those same criticisms could have been made about your ZX-6R when it was new. Has it been a bad bike?

I just got an F4i and am going to be pissed if the '07 600R turns out to be reasonably comfortable now that they've raised the bars 10mm, but I'm not too concerned since the pegs have always been too high for me and the unadjustable shifter hits my size 12EE foot in the wrong spot (like, the bottom of my ankle). Plus, for the money, you get a lot less features with the 600RR as compared to the competition.

From what I've read the new Ninja is all about the track, which is fine as long as they offer a streetable alternative. I just wish they made some ergonomic adjustments to the 636 and called it the new ZZR600.

As for the GSXR, I think Suzuki could sell a shitload of bikes if they made the bars adjustable like the pegs, but I only ride bikes and don't have a marketing degree so what the hell do I know?

All those same criticisms could have been made about your ZX-6R when it was new. Has it been a bad bike?

I do get a kick out of watching the "beat the other mfrs by 0.000001" game, even if it is a waste.  Actually my 6R beat the F4i in hp and matched it in weight without the terrible ergos of the R6.  So neener neener.

Between the two reviews it sounds like the new ZX6R will have the most extreme ergos of the group, the heaviest weight, and middling mid-range without a top end kick.

Seriously, though, that GSXR750 calls to me like no sportbike has since my 6.  The most beautiful bike sold right now, IMO.  Same weight, 30 more hp, and 10 more lb-ft of torque, too, compared to my bike. And on paper the ergos aren't much different than my bike (yeah, I was surprised, too).
