So last month I did some of WV, but got rained on for most of it.  You can read about it here if you're interested.

I did 33, 250, 28, a good section of 39, 42, 55 and 50.  Here's a map:

I'm going back on Saturday for a few days to do some more exploring.  My first priority is 39, so I'll probably end up in Summersville, WV.

What are some good ideas from that area?  I don't need to redo what I did on my last trip, though I might do some on the way back home.

Thanks all!

16 from route 33/119 north to jct 50 is very good

20 is excellent from Webster Springs north to French Creek (just south of Buckhannon)

33 is twisty, but on variable quality pavement west of Weston.

47 is a nice east/west route west of Weston/I-79

50 is good from Grafton to jct 219

119 has some traffic, but also some nice sweepers from Buckhannon to Grafton

72 is nice from Parsons north to Kingwood. The section north of 50 follows the Cheat River.

219 is nice south of Huttonsville and north of Elkins. The short section south of Elkins to Huttonsville isn't all that.

Thanks Garry!

Any ideas on a route south from Summersville that would end near the BRP for a full-day's ride on the BRP north the next day?

Of course!

Don't go as far west as Summersville if you can help it. Here's how I got to ESTN from that area back in May:

20 south
60 west
41 south into Beckley
3 west (S Fayette St) to jct 16
16 south from Beckley to Marion, VA (not to be missed!!!!!!)

Lots of good options on getting from Marion to the BRP depending on how for southwest you want to go.

NOTE: you go thru a few coal towns and such along 16 between Beckley and Marion, but the sections between War and Welch and Tazewell to Marion are worth the occasional coal truck, etc.

I couldn't have said it any better.  Those are some great roads Ken.

And, just to reiterate, there's NOTHING to see in or near Summersville.  Stay away from the area.

I was just figuring Summersville was the end of 39.  I'll bail before I get there, thanks!

39 is mostly mellow high speed sweepers west of 219 with a short twistier bit going over the mountain. Nice road since there is no civilization along it until Richwood, but not the twisty-fest is in Virginia (which is not to be missed).

I would guess in the Virginia section since it follows a river there (near Goshen). Not positive though. The part between 219 and Richwood/jct 20 is mostly through forest as I recall.

Nothing but the local police. Just south of Summersville they lay in wait and have no sense of humor.
Before I retired I ran thru there several times a week and I`d see them along the road eating their kill.

You might want to give 41 a try between Beckley and Babcock State park, it's to the southwest of your route a little ways.  Very scenic stop at Babcock SP, one of the most photographed spots in the state.  And 41 is a great ride.  And stop at Hill Creek Falls off 39.  It's not a long hike all the way down, and the view makes a welcome break in the ride.

Sorry I didn't post this up earlier, thought you were going next weekend.  But the weather should hold for you, since I'm planning to ride through central PA this weekend.  Last 500 miles to go on these tires.

Yup, planning on revisiting the Glade Creek Grist Mill at Babcock.  From 15 years ago:

Thanks!
