Tubeless tire with a tube in it? Safe or not/

Ahem, back on topic, if the reason he can't leave it tubeless are spokes in the wheel he really needs to be careful to have the spoke nipples well taped over on the inside.  If there are any sharp edges they can rub on the tube and, well, you know what happens next.

Thetubes came with the new rubber strips for covering the spokes. I think he is in there. We will see if he rides it to work tomorrow

Not necessarily. At occasional points in the past, I've had a puncture on an effectively brand new tire that my shop wouldn't repair. Not necessarily because it wouldn't hold, just THEY wouldn't do tire patches/plugs on bike tires. When that happened, I'd just slap a tube in it and be done, no more worry about the nail hole repair. Note, this was on a smaller bike than I currently ride, but I don't see why it would be a problem if you can't afford a new tire (or don't want to replace a good one).

Since it got such a good reaction before, let me recommend Dunlop GT501s as a bias ply tube-tubeless performance tire. We're running these on the wife's '79 XS, and they're pretty phenominal.

I'm pretty sure I've heard you can seal spoked wheels to run them without the tube.

Motard riders have been experimenting with that technology.  Some good results, some snake oil setups.  I wouldn't trust it on the street, and especially on tour.  Better to buy rims intended on running tubeless tires than to try and make an old fashioned spoked rim go tubeless.

Yes, you can run tubes in just about anything, in fact it's safe enough that the tire manufactures state as much. Then again, I thought you were unwilling to deviate from the owner's manual? It was written by engineers who clearly know much more about this than anyone here.

Guess you failed reading comprehension. Go back and look for the word 'almost'. Secondly, I've read more of gunz/bandit 1's posts than this one so that's where the 2nd Amendment business comes from. Lastly, you seem pretty sensitive about the 2nd Amendment but I don't have any issues with you, nor do you know what my stance on it is.

Nope, scored top percentile in reading comprehension back in the day... your words were "almost always", which implies just that, the majority.  Since I consider myself to be pro Bill of Rights and pro Second Ammendment, and having been inculcated from birth to be such, I consider myself to be of that majority.  Since you seemed to be painting with a very wide brush then yes I'm a little sensitive there.... but really, this is a topic more suitable for a different forum.

No reason for it with instant background checks.  To me that is on par with having a waiting period to be approved for a car loan.

However I do think that the background check database needs to be better maintained and populated, i.e. mental health records, etc...
