Totally shameless wine plug....

So, for those of you who bought into our Purple Cow Wine sale for STN members, be advised, our Kelsey Edition Pinot Noir went up against five other -and much more expensive- Pinots last week in a blind tasting of Oregon Pinots at the 'Cellar on 10th' in Astoria (one of OR's most well-respected wine shops) and it was the favorite, in spite of it being $14 less than the next least expensive bottle...
Enjoy!!

How do you get on the list.
I'm a member of the Gold Medal Wind Club. They provide California wines. Get a bottle of red and a bottle of white once a month. Good stuff. All dry by the way.

Uh-oh..........
Sorry, my bad, Jenks...I forgot to notify you that we cant....PA is one of the six states which shipping wine into is completely, unavoidably, impossible to bypass ILLEGAL. As in 'felony'.
Sorry........
The rest of you, no problem -unless you are in the other five states.
The deal is still open: choose a three-pak made up of any one of our wines & get 15% off to help offset shipping.
You can choose between:
- the '06 Chardonnay at $16.00
- the '06 Kelsey Edition Pinot Noir at $24.00
- the '06 Sophie Edition Pinot Noir at $27.00
- the '04 Reserve Tempranillo at $29.00
Pick any three, take 15% off, add shipping and that's the price. Shipping is cheap, 9-12 bucks to Cali, 16 bucks or so to the East Coast. Send me a PM and we'll get it going. Payment can be via personal check or Paypal, whatever suits you. There are already about 14 happy winos in STN...
Any shameless plugs from any of you 14 who have already had some?

I am one of the "Gang of Four - teen" but can't give a review of the wines yet. Life gets in the way sometimes. However, I can say that Galo's packaging and shipping are exemplary. It would take a hell of a hit to break these, and they showed up in good time.

Mississippi is one. My state demands I give them some money first. They must tax every bottle bought, sold or shipped here, this is in addition to sales tax.

I googled this and found that's a very complex issue. Some states allow importing by mail/UPS/Fed Ex from everywhere, others only from certain states, and some not at all, and it all depends where the shipment starts. They've got recipocrity laws with some states, in which case it's OK, but they don't have recipocrity laws with others, and there fore illegal to import from that state. I didn't even bother looking how to import from another country.
Apparently, all these import bans are old laws left over from the Prohibition Era and have only become an issue the past few years becaise of the growing popularity of small vineyard wines.

There are a few companies that keep track of the everchanging state laws. I worked with a gal at Hogue's who started a company that runs shipping interference for wineries. They have more accounts than they can handle now.
I'm at Chandler Reach now, Galo. Do I get an industry discount? Swap?

Oh bollocks!
There's one way around it, and it involves me making the shipment to you as a gift, meaning, the name Purple Cow Vineyards is nowhere to be seen, I throw a 'thank you' note inside the box with some inane message like 'thanks for the great time at 'wherever' -something specially offensive to the wine poe-lice, specially when the note is coming from one male to another......
Good for one shipment, then we're done for, unless I start getting creative with the notes inside the box to show we have a truly awesome relationship.....
Shipping this way is more $$$$$, cuz it's not a FedEx commercial rate...
And you're BANNED, BTW.......

Tempranillo is very good.
I bought two bottles of Galo's Tempranillo Reserve, expecting to drink one and give the other away as a gift this Christmas.
After trying the wine though, I decided a pair of socks will make a most suitable gift instead.

Not to mention, a bottle of wine will only last so long, but socks will last for months or years and have the added benefit of keeping frostbite at bay.

the wine
snob
connoisseur of the family, gave me a bottle of 2001 Opus One for my last birthday; along with a stern admonition that I should only open it for the "
proper occasion

I'm planning to send him a cellphone vid of me and a couple homies passing the bottle around the living room while eating chicken wings, watching football and listening to rap music...

Any occasion with wine is the proper occasion. It would be great if you could somehow arrange to have video run of his face when he sees yours.
I say that I'm a wine connoisseur, but actually I'm just a wino.

Line up the Purple Cow bottles in the background, too....
We love it when snobs drink our wine....they cant believe anything with that name can be real, serious wine -until they drink it...
Viva Seth Godin!

I know we're going to be having a bottle or two of PC for turkey day and I'm DEFINITELY saving at least one Tempranillo for Christmas Eve after the kids go to bed.

So... I tried the Kelsey Pinot Noir, and all I can say is
Although I can barely type that - After just 1 1/2 glasses I started to feel a little tipsy, and typing requires serious concentration.
About it: It's subtle. No single feature jumps out at you when you drink it except "wow, that's a good wine." The aroma is fresh and slightly oaky.
After a few sips: it's smooth and incredibly well-balanced. It starts very subtly, slightly toasty. The finish is incredibly elegant.
I drank it with stuffed mushrooms (one sausage and one wild-rice) and asparagus, and it has been an excellent accompaniment to all. I'm about to open up the dark chocolate, and I'll let you know how that goes.

Okay...
so...
The only problem with drinking this wine with a good dark chocolate is that drinking more of the wine with eating more of the chocolate is sort of an upward spiral...
I haven't found any food that this wine doesn't love.

Of course u can buy two...we'll leave an empty location in the three-pak.
Yes, there are no 'two paks' that we know of....
