Luckily the missus is also a recovering gamer so I have someone who can sympathize with my problem.  And nag the piss out of me when I stray.

I'm running a AMD dual core 4800, 2gigram and a 7950gt and it runs pretty smooth. I do thing the shadows are kinda bad though but it could be something with my config.

Gaming is fun and great stress relief especially during the cold winter months.

It is. Just finished STALKER and have nothing to play. I hear Gears of War is good and will not tax my system too much.

I have an AMD 3500 6600 card and tons of RAM but I suspect COD4 is beyond my system.

Possibly but it may be playable if you turn down the bells and whistles.

Might as well give it a try. I will download the demo and see how bad it is.

I used to be addicted to Flight Sims and with each latest and greatest I went and upgraded. Now, my upgrades are usually a year or so behind. It saves me money and in about a year or two I play the game. But I must admit, the new games like COD4 and Crysis have me a bit excited.

Downloaded the Demo which is very good !    And it runs ok at 600x800 on my machine slightly dumbed down. Have not played much with the settings but will tonight. This will have to go on my list to Santa.

Me too. It was really amazing, immersive and very different. Kind of Russian like in an obtuse way.

Just like the old one, there is no co-op campaign. Developers need to wakeup and realize that co-op campaing (online and offline) is a requirement for next gen games.

ARRRGGGHHHH!!! WTF?!  EVERY game should have 2 player co-op.  Period.

Do you mean STALKER? No, the latest patch worked well for me and I had no crashes at all.

Yup, that is what I meant. I will have to try it out then. It looks like a great game.

ah...but wait until they cap out the Playstation 3 CELL chip in a few more years
Nothing like real-time rendered physics...shell a car, and watch it flip due to simulated real forces.

Well, then the PS3 developers will be a good 5 years behind the curve.  Real time physics has been in some games for years.

I did not update it and the only issue I had was when I was out walking or running across a large area the game would freeze for a 2 second count then pick right back up, it was a little annoying but it never happened during a firefight or such so it was not that big of a deal as the game was so dang good to me I just paid it no attention.

My shadow issues with my nVidia 7950 gt were solved by the new beta driver:
