I had mentioned in an earlier post that I was almost guilty abut the lack of work I'd been doing on my K1200RS. Well... I should have been.

I bought it with 21K miles on it and it now has nearly 47K. The basic maintenance interval is 12K miles, so I missed the 24K and 36K and have been approaching the 48K. So it was high time I started checking into things.
I had a set of plugs on the shelf that I'd been meaning to put in, so I dusted them off and started pulling plastic. I checked the valves and found a couple intakes pretty tight. I decided to have the dealer perform the adjustment since it requires pulling the cams. They reported that they had to go three steps on the rearmost intake. After I got the bike back, I decided it was time to install the Ohlins that I'd snagged a couple weeks earlier. So, off comes all of the plastic again. And this time, I also pulled the fuel tank. And the front wheel. I've never had so much stuff off the bike before, but the front shock is really buried.
While I had the tank off, I also replaced the air filter. That was probably the part most in need of attention. Holding both up to the light, I could see light coming through the new one but no light at all through the old.

Plugs were pretty worn, but with modern ignition systems, these can go long past their normal service interval:

I took a stab at changing the fuel filter, but the fuel pump assembly really didn't want to come out. (Thinking about this later, I wonder if there isn't a hose between it and the fuel filler for the overflow.)
The only other thing I need to do to complete this is to change the brake fluid. Or did I do that recently.

Yeah, I think I did. But I need to engage the ABS and bleed again to make sure the fluid is freshened in the ABS modulator. But brake fluid is cheap compared to brake hardware, so there's no issue with that.
I also changed engine, transmission and final drive oil, using synthetic replacements for all.
I checked front pads and they still have about half their lining left. Don't have linked brakes and hardly use the rears, so they should still be good.
So... I should be good to go for some more tens of thousands of miles.
