(explanation) rant on...
Today my company decided to announce some cost cutting measures, including layoffs of a large number of employees spread throughout the multiple locations. I'm not worried, as I am the only person at this location that has any idea how to do my job. I work at a multi-line car dealership and am the only parts guy for this line and work in a separate building.
Part of the decision was to send the one service writer/cashier we have to the other building, where all the customers will now have the repair orders written. Then the techs will have to go pick up the car next door, drive here and repair the car, then take it back. Inefficiency at work, but minor on the face of it. However, what happens when a customer decides to call the national mothership and complain about having to take their new car to some other brand dealer? (And yes, people do this, I've seen it.) "If I had wanted to go to _____ car company, I would have bought one." Or a customer wants to ask a tech a question about some issue with their car? Does the tech have to take the time to walk down to the other building when they could be working on a car? Or send the customer for a walk?
Next was my manager letting about three things slip his mind before he left for a week-plus vacation. Things that only he can do, at least with out one of us taking a considerable amount of time and grief to get it straightened out. Unfortunately, this seems to have become almost commonplace with him over the last few months, since he became the manager. Hey, if I mess up, I'll do what it takes to fix the problem. I'm tired of fixing other people's mistakes and screwups, simply because I've been here the longest.
And since a good rant must include profanity, threats, and nudity, I guess this isn't a very good rant. But it felt good. Thanks.
...rant off

Oh yeah!
I am convinced that the reason they won't let me graduate is NOT because I haven't written a thesis yet, but because I'm not screwed up in the head enough.

There are MANY reasons I am messed up, but they won't let you out of grad school until they have added at least an order of magnitude to your insanity.
That means they might be nice and undo the straight jacket so they can hand me my diploma.

Ah, so it wasn't the quals that kicked me out of grad school, it was the lack of insanity.

Me: "How many sex partners do you have right now?
15-year-old girl: "Four."
Me: "What birth control are you using?"
15-year-old girl: "What do you mean?"
I should mention this is at work, not, you know, at a bus stop or playground or something.

Yup. They just use the exams to weed out the sane ones. You'll notice that the 5th year students are a LOT weirder than the first years. You either go crazy or leave.

Or, today:
Drunk disheveled woman screaming: "I AM GOING TO FUCKING KILL MYSELF! FUCK YOU ALL! I NEED TO SEE MY DOCTOR OR I AM DOING TO DIE!!!"
Me: "There are coffee beans falling out of your pants."
Not sure which of us was the more idiotic at that point, but it was a LOT of coffee beans.
