Hey guys, just got my 2002 cbr 954 and love the bike. I plan on commuting a lot on it and also would like to take a trip this summer to visit my brother down in san diego via the coastal highway and scenic roads (I live in seattle). I plan on putting convertibars on, a sargent seat.

So I do have a couple of questions:
-Has anyone found a a way to get hard luggage on the 954 other than the givi top rack?
-What screen do people prefer for sport-touring with on the 954?
-Is there anything else you recommend?

In general what how do people like taking long trips on the 954 with some touring mods? I definitely like the sportier side of sport-touring so I'm not too afraid of a little discomfort.

Thanks!
-Joe

Hey Joe...

Where you going with that gun in your hand?  (Sorry...couldn't resist).   Rolleyes

I don't have any first-hand experience sport-touring on a 954, but one of the member on here (Vivid) has put a ton of miles on hers.  You might give her a shout or check out her homepage/blog as she has info on her bikes there.

Cheers,

Joe

I used to  put 1000 mile days in on my 954RR.  I preferred the MRA screen and Corbin seat but most folks that rode my bike preferred the stock seat.  I've seen Givi's on a couple but never asked if the brackets were direct from Givi or custom made.  I was always happy with soft luggage.

Thanks for the info guys! I actually already saw Vivid's site when doing some searches for 954 + touring etc... definitely very encouraging!
Which MRA screen did you use? the touring or the vario screen? I gotta say that I hate the stock seat already so a replacement is definitely in the works. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself with the luggage though-- soft luggage should be more than enough. Never had hard bags before so would like to try it someday...

I ride a 954, I've done some touring on it and it works great (I've only got 26,000mi. on it so far) I installed a set of heli-bars, Corbin seat (w/pass. backrest, great for luggage attachment) Double bubble screen (zero-gravity??) and a throttlemiester cruise. With this setup I can put on miles very comfortably. I would routinely go to Cody, WY last summer (wife was working there). I would leave here after work (4:00pm) and knock out the 400miles in under 5-1/2 hours or so. The longest day I've done on it is 700mi. but I only quit because I was home? I think it is the perfect SPORT-touring bike!! Plus if you are tall like me (6'2") it is one of the few sportbikes that has enough leg room.
