1250S Bags
«
on:
November 17, 2007, 07:44:12 PM »
I want to put hard bags and possibly a top case on my 2007 Bandit 1250S. If I put a top case on I want to be able to remove it easily. Does anyone have any photo's of theirs with bags? The Suzuki bags look nice, but a little pricey and the dealer seemed unsure of exactly which mount I would need. The Givi site doesn't have pictures of the system installed and I would like to have an idea of what they would look like. Thanks for any help you can give.

KenB has them on his bike:

Suzuki has the Bandit Accessories online. I don't know if you've seen those photos, yet. I've posted three of them here, but the address for the B1250 accessories is:

Corbin is supposedly working on a set of their conformal "beetle bags" (
see thread in this vendor's section
) for the new Bandito.
If I were a Neo-Bandit owner I would wait to see what they look like before I put money down on a set of luggage.

Zc1,
Thanks for the links to Ken's photo's. The Suzuki site is a little confusing to me, it lists 2 mounting systems. The dealer wasn't sure what I needed, he thinks I need to purchase both of them. I'm not sure that is right and the website doesn't seem clear to me, am I missing something?

I've been ringing this up on the Suzuki sites. I wish Suzuki would build a stocker Bandit like the one depicted above. Call it a Bandit 1250 GT or SE, whatever, but build it w/the lower fairing and bags & maybe a few other accessories from the catalog. It would fill in a big hole where Suzuki is lacking an ST.
After I tire of my ZZR1200, I've got my eye set on a Triumph Sprint 1050 for my next bike; but if Suzuki built a factory model like this one, I'd give it serious consideration. It would, no doubt, be the lightest weight & probably least expensive sport tourer out on the market. Heaven knows the total package is already there w/that engine, handling, braking, etc. Throw on some Dale Walker performance items and that bike would rock at about 500 lbs.
Suzuki are you listening?

One is for the side cases the other is for the top box.
The mounting hardware needed depends on which set up you want -- side cases only or side and top cases. If you want both sets of cases, you need this mounting hardware:
http://www.suzukimegastore.com/Luggage/Bandit_Side_Case_Mount.htm
and
http://www.suzukimegastore.com/Luggage/Bandit_Top_Case_Mount.htm
But if you are going to run with only the side cases, then you need the side case mount (above) plus this one:

Thanks, didn't know Suzuki had done that in CANADA so there's hope for the US. If they added a taller screen, more touring oriented seat, an electrical outlet or two, some type of cruise control, I think it could compete w/the more expensive, overweight, overpowered ST's out there, especially for guys like me who don't want/need 130 RWHP or all the fandangled crap that the C-14/FJR/BMW K1200, et al. have at $3g's less. That's why I like the Sprint ST so much. All you need & not what you don't.

If you are still researching this, take a look at TwistedThrottle.com. There, you can find either SW-Motech or Givi mounts for the 1250. Personally, I went with Motech for my Givi E46 topbox and E21 side cases (already had the cases from previous bikes). They are a bit more than the Givi mounts, but the side case mounts are easily removable and do not require any rewiring of the rear turnsignals. These were big advantages for me. When I say removable, the side mounts use a 3-point system that integrates with or without the top case rack, with only two small brackets that fit to the rear exhaust mount and the left passenger foot rest. Well designed and well made. When the side racks are removed, all that remains attached are the small side brackets, the bracket that integrates with the grab rail/top case mounting plater and a third bracket that replaces the rear side reflector/license plate bracket that attaches to the rear fender. You may need/want to do some absolutely minor modifications on this bracket to retain your reflectors and I did need to drill two new holes in the license plate for attachment. This is literally a matter of two fender washers and 5 minutes for measuring and drilling. The end result may not feel or seem as sturdy as the full Givi tube frame set up, but everything is strongly and snuggly held in place with no rattles. I have approximately 3500 miles with no problems. The other nice factor about the Motech set up is that you can get different attachment systems for different cases. So, if you don't want to use Givi cases, no problem. After all, its the mounts that matter!
And, before you ask, I am a lazy bastich and do not have any pictures!

Ya know, in addition to there being plenty of luggage options out there because of the Motech and Givi mounts, TwistedThrottle.com also carries a great deal of other inexpensive enhancements (In addition to the Dale Walker performance specials!). For example, the is a very nice MRA touring windscreen for $99 that does a great job. Handle bar risers are available, mirror extenders, tank bags, etc, etc. Between my original purchase price, lot's of Dale Walker upgrades, a replacement Yosh exhaust, and all of the TwistedThrottle amenities, I have tweaked a damn good machine into a damned good all-rounder. Total cost . . . less than $8.5K.
I've mentioned this on other posts, but the Bandit was in direct competition with an '07 Tiger. After back-to-back runs, the Tiger lost big time. I was coming off a very modified '06 Sprint that still left too much to be desired, and had a big desire to keep the beautiful 1050 presence (the best thing about the Sprint). While the Tiger has its own wonderful character, the Bandit is by far the better value, and is simply a terrific combination of power, poise and tractability. The motors equally great in their own way; the Suzuki tranny and clutch are better; center stand is standard on the Bandit; both needed aftermarket screens; Tiger bag options more limited than Bandit . . . And on . . .
Ok, back to topic . . .

Thanks for all the help, I will definitely look at twistedthrottle.com. I plan to research some and purchase after the first of the year. I'll be using the bike locally for day trips until May when we are planning to head up to North Georgia for a week. You guys have given me a lot of different options to consider, thanks again.

Ken,
I forgot to ask, do the Suzuki bags come off easily? If so how do all the mounting brackets look on the bike after bag removal. I want to use the bags when I need them but I really like the look with no bags.

All three bags come off quickly and easily - like 30 seconds. The mounting brackets are pretty well designed. They aren't exactly stealth but don't look like horrible by themselves.

So... how quickly and easily can you get the brackets off?
I do one or two trips each summer and would love a set of hard bags but the rest of the time my Bandit is a commuter and I would prefer the cleaner look of no hardware.

The 1250 is an early bird when it comes to the low fuel light warning (there isn't a reserve BTW). I get about 225-250 miles to a tank but the warning light comes on about 125-150.

I was going to go with the Suzuki baggs until I saw a bike from the rear with them on it. Man those things stick way out. They could have easily moved them 2 inches closer to make it look narrower. I have since decided to sell my B1250 so I am not going to put bags on it. But If i did i would probally go with soft bags.

Compared to what? The 1250 with bags is slender compared to my ST13. Sounds like it wasn't your cup of tea though anyways...what are you going to buy after the Bandit?

I saw a Bandit with factory bags at the Calgary Motorcycle Show last weekend, and it didn't seem to me that the bags stuck out farther than normal. In fact, the bike looked narrow compared to many STs with hard bags.

They are reflectors. But the side case kit includes parts for moving the turning signals up. And this works really well. The signals are up about 6-8" over stock and more in the line of sight for the typical cage driver behind you.

yeah, I noticed the blinkers were moved up. A problem with a top case I've heard is that all the SUV drivers have a hard time seeing your brake light because 1. The angle and the Top case shields it and 2. They are always on your ass, but the right twisty thing takes care of that
. I am liking this bike more and more for its adaptable nature. On a side note I have noticed that either they sell alot or nobody carries them because they are hard to find right now. I like that 07 red alot, too bad it isn't ABS. Thanks for answering my questions Ken

You're right about that! I was at my dealer in the late Fall and spoke with the owner. He asked how I was liking the Bandit. I told him it was the best bike I've owned - very pleased - amazing bang for the buck. He mentioned that for him (he moves about 500 units a year) it was the sleeper of the year. He sold all of the Bandits he had ordered and had to have 4 others shipped in from other dealers in the northeast for customers that were hunting for one. He was planning to order twice as many for the '08 season.

When you consider how the motorcycle press has raved about the newest generation of the Bandit, it may help to explain its renewed popularity. Always a great bike, now made better.

Ken,
Could you post a pic of your from the back to let others decide? Thanks
Here are some photos from the 1250SEA at the bike show, including one taken from behind the bike. Sorry about the focus on a couple of them...moving platform + unfamiliar camera.

Looks like Kappa has another solution for bags that may be just a little smaller.

Thanks for the addition. From these pics they seem to be very cavernous bags. I wouldn't lane split with them on. Not as integrated as say an FJR, or ST 1300. But looks good enough.
