Did my first semi-long ride this weekend. Now over 1K miles and does this thing make me smile.
I may be leaving the FJR home more often on the extended weekends!

How do you like the comfort of the 'S' and its tank range?  One thing that I'd be concerned about for myself is the height difference between the front and rear seats -- and my tail bone bouncing off the rear seat from time to time.  I ought to sit on one at a dealer sometime.

I don't know what it is about that bike, but it is cool looking to me.

Forget carrying a passenger.
A great one up bike. I found the seat very comfortable
and was on it for a full day. I actually like the seat height difference
and find myself pushing back into when I get low at speed.
I've had several BMWS...this is my fav so far.
It doesn't have a fuel gauge...starts flashing with about
60 miles to go. I found myself thinking about fuel at about 190 miles.

You will never ride the fjr again. Trust me I know I had a fjr and now I do not.
I have ridded my S as long as 800 miles in one day without any major discomfort.

Congrats!

I took a demo ride on one. I liked it.

Any plans to put panniers on it?

No. Not that I don't like the look of them on. They require some hard parts
I didn't like the look of when the bags are off. I am looking at a 50 liter
Marsee tail bag though.  Bigsmile

The hard bags are really not needed all that much unless you are taking overnight trips on a regular basis. Over the summer I threw some soft bags over mine with a towel underneath so not to scratch anything and had a great time they were on and off
usually quicker then the guys with hard bags. What would be nice to have is a small tail bag to leave on permanently, When I bought the bike they had a really nice one that was going for a $130 that I tried to get them down on and they would not budge on the price so I did no buy it in hindsight I wish I did.

I'm surprised BMFahrfenugen hasn't logged on to tell you that you can't sport tour on the R1200S  Bigsmile

Did anyone catch the letter to the editor in the December BIKE issue?

A Chris Geuting in California wrote in moaning about the R1200S not being as good as the R1100S for sport touring.  Rolleyes

I think that in many ways, the R1200ST is really the successor to the R1100S function-wise - with the R1200S being a new animal.

The R1100S is certainly better for some things than the R1200S, notably:
* 2-up touring of any sort
* hard bags if you're into that sort of thing (I am)
* ...uh...
* weighing more
* being less powerful

Ok, that's all I've got.  I'm so glad I haven't ridden a R1200S yet.  They're pretty expensive, and I don't want to beat my head against the wall trying to figure out how to buy one Wink

You forgot looking good.  The R1100S was absolutely gorgeous.  The new 12 is pretty two, but she is the less pretty of the two sisters IMO.

You know, if we were discussing some other bikes I'd chime in to say, "Get over it.  You don't see the crap when you are riding."  With this bike, however -- which I have seen in the metal and plastic -- it looks too good to hang the crap on.  Hell, wear a backpack if you need to carry more stuff.

......

I've owned them both.  AGREED 100% !

Too bad I had so many issues with MY grey R1200ST.  Wished I didn't.  I miss certain aspects of it.
