Greetings,
Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday.
Two local Honda dealers have a CBR 1000F for sale a 1998 w/7000mi and the other dealer a 1993 with 6000mi.
Is anyone on this forum using this bike for a ST/daily rider?
Any major mechanical/service problems with the bike?
google search did not turn up much info ie a specific forum.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have one and I love it! Great bike. BTW Honda stopped importing them into the US in 1996. Mine's a '96. So I don't think the 1998 is correct. By then they were the CBR 1100 XX blackbirds.
The only real issue is the timing chain tensioner, which is not a real big deal and an easy and cheap fix. Mine makes a little noise when cold (which is typical) but fine when warm. Other then that, they are Honda's so they will last forever.

Sorry, my bad! the 1998 was supposed to be 1993.

I think it's a great sport touring bike. I find the riding position to be just the right combination of sport and touring. Power is excellent without being overkill. It has a plush ride and I like the linked brakes [some people don't]. I read in another forum that by 1993 the cam chain tensioner was improved [but who trusts the internet?]. Overall it is a great choice for racking up the miles.

I loved mine. It was great on the open road and highway, rock solid and stable, especially in a crosswind. I could feel the weight around town, but I adapted. Mine had a Two Brothers exhaust and a jet kit installed by a previous owner. The power was awesome! The bike was trouble free for a few years, but then I got tired of trying to get it to run well. Seemed as if nobody could tune it..probably needed a carb rebuild. If I had a nice unmolested example of the breed, I may have kept it. Great all around Sport-Tourer.
If you buy one...I have lots of restoration items left over from my 93. PM me and I will sell you all the little bits for short money.
My VFR is nicer in many ways, but I always miss the CBR when it comes to WOT.

I had a 1994 CBR1000F and it was rock solid, as there was never an issue with any trip. It was not the lightest or best handling but solid power along with a comfortable riding position made the bike great for touring. I really did like the RWB color scheme and the only issue I remember reading about was the camchain tensioner problems but I think that was more with the earlier years.

I owned a '94 for one year and sold it for my VFR. It used what I would consider alot of oil - I'm not used to owning a bike I need to add oil to between changes. It was also pretty uncomfortable for me - very little legroom and the reach to the bars was too far - alot like the 'Bird.
Carbs just plain suck compared to FI. I'd look for something newer.

Know how long the 1KF lasts (mine is approaching 70k miles), I would have jumped on either of those.
