The Ford was given a 'sporting' head start...

Nice. Thumbsup  Maybe I missed it in the article but where and what is PIR?  I know it can't be Pocono.   Bigsmile

On a somewhat related note, the Ford GT will be a full time competitor next season in the American LeMans series.  I absolutely love that car and it will be cool to finally see it race against Ferrari and Porsche.

Is it me, or was that little blurb horribly written?  It had no flow to it at all.

They aren't making any more of them but I doubt there are any ALMS rules that require a car to be 'in production'.
It's not actually Ford that is running the car and I don't think any of the ALMS teams actually have 'factory support'*.

I still have the commercial for the Ford GT on my PC.  If you remember, it was a driver on a closed circuit drifting the car through turns as high speeds.  I watch it about once a month.

Now I need a video of Polen leaving darkies on a 1098 like he did when he passed the GT in this story.   Thumbsup

The Brit show "5th Gear" ran a regular Lambo Gallardo and a 999 against the clock on Philips Island a few years ago, 999 wins, and then this year, ran, head to head, ie actually raced each other on the track, don't know which track, a Gallardo Superlegerre against a 1098. The later is *absolutely incredible* to watch but the "good guy" wins, due to the phenomenal acceleration/speed factor, still accelerating on and then passing the Lambo at 150+mph.  EEK!. Tried to find the old Youtube links, but apparently it's no longer available. Too bad. Sad Wonder why they didn't use a GSXR1000?  Lol

Ford did an amazing job with the GT , looks purrrfect.  I've always been fascinated by them, OK that was ' my' guys in high school ' time - LeMans, Chapparals,Turbine Indy Cars,  Lotus-Fords taking over from Offys,  The great Mustang / Camaro / AMC Trans Am  races , rumbling Hemis & 427's in NASCAR . . .
I think maybe 5 years ago, Motorcyclist mag. did a run down Angeles crest with a Viper and GSXR - Viper won, standard real road conditions- sand in corners etc. Least that's how I remember the article.

The Viper than lunched it's motor at the end of the test.  So I guess if they decided to run back up the mountain, then it really wasn't the winner..

Thanks for the link.

This Ducati didn't do so well.  But then again, the rider wasn't fully tucked and it was a 748, not a 998.

I'd give my left nut for a Ford GT and a garage full of tires! Inlove

Dood, interesting bike. Did you customize it yourself, or was it all f*cked up when you bought it?

I waited a respectful period before bringing this up, but did it occur to Czysz to maybe ride something to challenge the 1098, instead of driving his Ford GT?

An ex client of mine in Calgary had an origional Ford GT-40 (they only made 125 I believe) which I was blessed to get a ride in one day. It was the fastest thing I have ever had my butt cheeks in or on ever.

I would not race his car with any bike I can think of. I would question how skilled the driver of the Ford GT was. I can't believe that a bike can pull more G's around a corner than a GT, nor can I belive it would out accelerate it. I would like to see Michael Schumacher behind the wheel of the GT.

I have ridden a GSX 1000 & R-1 and neither had the straight line punch I was shown in John's GT 40. (his car was geared differently than it would have been on the racetrack however). I believe you would either smoke the back tire off the bike, or send the front wheel to heaven trying to beat one of these in a quarter mile race.
