An ex client of mine in Calgary had an origional Ford GT-40 (they only made 125 I believe) which I was blessed to get a ride in one day. It was the fastest thing I have ever had my butt cheeks in or on ever.

I would not race his car with any bike I can think of. I would question how skilled the driver of the Ford GT was. I can't believe that a bike can pull more G's around a corner than a GT, nor can I belive it would out accelerate it. I would like to see Michael Schumacher behind the wheel of the GT.

I have ridden a GSX 1000 & R-1 and neither had the straight line punch I was shown in John's GT 40. (his car was geared differently than it would have been on the racetrack however). I believe you would either smoke the back tire off the bike, or send the front wheel to heaven trying to beat one of these in a quarter mile race.

my civic si FEELS like it pulls more sometimes than my SV650 at full tuck, but it doesnt.  its the torque that you feel and that you are held from behind with a seat instead of actively holding on and with your feet behind you absorbing the pull of inertia.  what are the 1/4mi times for the GT?  a GSXR1000 has a 1/4mi time of less than 10 seconds, beating that in the car world is a whole lot of work

As Stoddart alludes to, the GT's performance is incredible. For its January 2004 cover story, "Judgment Day!" a Car and Driver magazine test driver drove a Ford GT from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds. Car and Driver also recorded a quarter-mile time of 11.6 seconds at 128 mph. In the same test, Ferrari's $193,000 Challenge Stradale took four seconds to reach 60 mph and was 0.8 second and 13 mph slower through the quarter-mile.

Yes, but I thought that what was being referenced was an ACTUAL Ford classic racing GT40.  Those actually had less power (and less weight) than the Ford GT.  The race car would be highly dependent on gearing, but I still don't think they'd be as fast in a 1/4 as a bike.  120-180mph might be a different matter.

In the right hands, i.e. someone who knows what he is doing, a Ford GT would beat a 1098 on the track.
I recently saw a clip on youtube from one of those English car shows.  They raced a Lambo Gayardo against a 1098 on the track. The rider on the Duc was a current competing Brit road racing ace (sorry I forget his name).  The driver in the car was some slob English journo  Twofinger Wink  Anyway, the bike JUST beat the car on the track (ok the driver cheated a bit with the start) but the point is the Ford is much faster around a track than the Lambo.

checking out the link to you tube / GT 40 in post above, there's a GT 40  film  linked that includes  a little of the original Lemans races - sideways out of corners . . . by jkstang, about 7 min total.
great job by Ford.
