I have had a serious Jones for an MV for a while now, and it is chipping away at my sensibilities. Besides, I haven't had a new bike in over 7 years.

Any owners out there? I have heard they are HORRIBLY uncomfortable. I understand that sport bikes are not designed with comfort in mind, but you still have be able to stand a 200-300 mile day.....

Why do I see these things with 1000 miles on them, 2-3 years old? Input, please?

The riding position is committed but on the right roads, right attitude, it all comes together.  I have no problems with the ergos and could crank out 200-300 mile days easily.  It depends on the shape one is in.  The MV is not unlike other pricey sporting rides like the Ducati Superbike, bought by many for weekends of morning blasts.  Few miles ridden.  I'm of another camp, taking it regularly on longer rides.  On a second MV here.

Completely reliable.  It is "Motorcycle Art" and the beauty is not just skin deep.  The F4312R below won the 2007 annual Master Bike shootout at Jerez, beating all sportbikes, all classes, with more riders circling the track fastest on the MV.  If one has any weakness for motorcycle music, the unearthly intake roar combined with the Ferrari derived radial valved engine singing through the exhaust, will have you in another two wheeled dimension unlike anything else.

Details please.

I found a leftover 2006 F41000S new, still on an MSO, at a price I absolutely could not pass up. I was even able to negotiate in the first (pricey!) sevice. Federal is delivering the bike to me next week.

Looks-wise, that is my favorite MV F4 (fortunate for me!) It's the traditional red over silver with the silver star wheels. They have come out with models that are a bit faster and a bit tricker, with all kinds of interesting bits of carbon, titanium, and magnesium, but this is the bike I've been lusting after for 8 years or so, since I saw the first one. I don't like the wheels and/or graphics of the later 1000R or the 312, and the performance difference doesn't matter to me.

There was a brand new MV 850 SS America on the showroom next to my 77 Laverda Jota when I bought the Laverda new in 1977. I was 19 and the $4900 out the door I paid for it would have bought any two Japanese bikes - financially it was my absolute limit. The MV was $10,000 out the door and I couldn't swing it, but I've never forgotten it - what a beauty.

Since I'm not likely to ever own one of the original four cylinders, this will have to do.

What are your initial impressions?

My first impression is that it's pretty chilly outside and I have not ridden it very far yet, but .....

Very committed riding position, lots of weight on the hands, as speed picks up it seems less of an issue.
Pretty tall, 32.5 inch seat height, hard to back up while seated for my 30" inseam.
Lack of steering lock makes moving it around more challenging.
Horn is pretty feeble.
All of the above is okay, because .....
The sensations it creates (sounds, feel, intense acceleration) are very addicting.
I can look at it for hours and never get tired of it.

I love it!
