Due to elevation and time, we are considering reversing the route and heading North first. We'll be tired and riding at night so there's been some concern over the night time temps and the more mountainous terrain. So it's probably easier to hit Flag first and Tucson last.

I've added the rest stops along the way, these will depend on individual needs and peoples gas requirements obviously. If anyone has any additional ideas just let me know. :-)

I haven't had my valves checked before this.  As for your other questions...umm I don't know.  I'm not that mechanically knowledgeable.

It would be cool if you could find out exactly where the leaks were at when you pick it up.  Having head gasket and water pump leak at the same time makes it seem like something else was going on too.  Since they had to take much apart to replace the head gasket were you going to have them check the valve tolerance since it was supposed to be done at 15k miles?

The ride is Saturday April 19th at 5:00am.

The Meetup location is 2750 W Thunderbird Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85053.
Just off of I-17 & Thunderbird. We'll start and end at this location.

We have the awesome Laura from the Phoenix Area Cycle Riders to act as our start
witness. Kent Ailes from the approved IBA witness list has agreed to act as the
end witness. Also, just to fill in the extra witness space my father has agreed to sign
off on both the start and end times. :-)

The witness/log forms can be found here I'll also bring an extra set or 2.

We will head North to Flagstaff bypassing I-17 along the construction route by taking
New River Rd. around. If the construction has stopped let me know and we can save time
on this section. There are 2 routes available along the end of the trip, we can either head
straight thru Tucson or take the scenic route through Safford, Globe and in via 60. The latter
route saves us about 30 miles.

The only concern with route option 2 is riding at night. Between cold and fatigue it might not be the best option. I'll leave it up to the group.

Just a heads up that I won't be able to attend.  I got the bike back from the shop and she is running so much better.  It's a shame I can't open her up on a ride like this.  I just have too much other stuff going on.  I wish you guys a safe ride.

I'll be doing a SS1K on May 18th heading to Dallas if anyone is interested.  Going to see Radiohead

Well we made it back   Took 9 minutes short of 18hrs. Basically stopped
for gas and to stretch every 125 miles or so. Overall not too bad, just really
long.

Well... a Fellow AZRatPack rider & I are in the works of putting one together... We're looking at going sometime in the next 4 to 8 weeks...

Any recommendations or suggestions from those that have already done this?

I've a SS1000 planned for this coming spring.  As soon as I get the word that I-40 is clear of snow I'm off.
Intend to go Phoenix to Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Deming and then back to Phoenix.  100% Interstate as a friend that wants to go has issues with time and this will be the quickest route for him.
I just did a Houston to Phoenix, 1152 miles in 17 hours, on my BMW R1150RT.  Already got my certificate from the IBA.
I'm an IBA member and an IBA start/finish witness as well as willing to help plan a ride.  
I have a book that lists every truckstop and gas station in the US so figuring fuel stops isn't a problem.
I'm also planning a 50cc (San Diego, CA to Jacksonville Beach, FL) which is an under 50 hour run.
I'm also planning a Mexico to Canada run which is an under 24 hour run.
If anyone is interested let me know, I have everything already mapped out and I have to find the time with work to make it all happen.

I think we will be running the Border to Border around the First of July 2009. The 50cc or 100ccc will take place sometime in the Spring of 2009... depending upon Weather.

Hey Phoenix guys,

I'm hell bent to do a Border to Border Insanity run also.  Almost did it early this fall...but
I started planning too late and didn't have enough prep time.  So I scraped it and will instead
be doing it in the spring of 09'.  

RTRider...are you going to start in Nogalas?  What is your proposed route?  When you you
plan to go?  I live in Santa Teresa, NM (on the border)...so I was planning to start here
but I don't know where to end up in Canada.
