As the owner of an '03, I would like to amend what Paul said above. The clutch basket is suspected as the culprit for a noise or growl (known affectionately as 'chudder') as the bike passes through the 2800-3200 rpm range. It is not a safety or transmission wear issue. Some people have had the basket replaced to find the same noise returning. I've got 30,000+ on my replacement basket, it makes the same noise, I'm not worried.

Any number of '02 and '03 DL1000s have 100k on 'problem' clutch baskets.
Price seems a bit high to me.
