Has anyone tried to retrofit the R1200 RT cruise control onto the GS?  Where does it get the speed from?  How does it turn the throttle?  It would be nice if the GS already had all the pieces there and you could just plug it in.

Try these guys if your OEM BMW cruise dream doesn't pan out:

I've got their product on my VFR and it's been flawless for 6 years now.  Thumbsup

I had the McCruise system on my ST1300 too ... worked pretty well.

Twist, I don't know how easy the RT cruise would bolt up to the GS, but I'm interested to hear what you find out. That was one of the factors that swayed me to the RT when I was considering the GS, and I'd still like to add a GS to the garage.

Hmm, theirs looks almost OEM, and I like their buttons better.  They don't have one for the 1200 GS yet, but according to their page it should be out in January or February.  I think I'll wait and see.

How hard was the installation?

Installation was plug-n-play on the ST1300. The McCruise kits come built for the application, so the wiring harness is set up specifically for the bike. The "hardest" part of the install on the ST (if you want to call it that) was removing the airbox in order to connect up to the throttle cable and mount the CIU (Cable Interface Unit, the junction box between the cruise control's throttle cable and the bike's throttle cables). Everything else was just "unplug this, plug in new harness, reconnect to new harness jack".

The unit is a little pricey, and since it's coming from Australia pricing can vary a little sometimes due to the exchange rate, but I was happy with the value.

Anyone installed an Audiovox CCS 100? I keep toying with the idea of installing this on my oilhead.

Here's a website of it being installed on a FJR
