Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to say "Hi".  Been reading your posts for quite awhile and decided I better sign up.  Just moved from Calgary to Penticton and really looking forward to riding on these BC roads.  Although Alberta has some nice roads ultimately they are just toooo straight.

Been riding a year and a half now and on my second bike.  I started out on a beat up '89 EX500 to get my skills up then saw a used 2002 SV650S with less than 10k on it, in amazing condition, and just had to have it.  It came with a GIVI touring screen, brand new ST Battleaxes and a gel seat which soaks up water like a sponge so I'm replacing it with a Corbin seat.

Can't wait for riding weather and I hope to meet some of you in the Okanagan area!

Thanks!

Castlegar, eh?  My brother's a RCMP supervisor out there...he's had motorcycles most of his life but I don't think he owns one at the moment. I'll definitely be visiting him soon.  Perhaps he's pulled you over...er, I mean...perhaps you know him  Wink

Do you come to the forums to organize rides (day rides, weekend rides) or once  you get to know someone you contact them directly?

Both. We have some organized rides like th Banff Run and Borscht Burn but also get together for whatever. Have a look back in the Canada forum and you will see. We like to have our American friends drop by too. Have a look around, don't be shy and enjoy st.n.  Thumbsup

This is a subject I take seriously, so here we go.
I've never lived anywhere else but BC. I've seen most of North America. Never been off the continent.
I've seen BC up close and personal top to bottom left to right. From my "narrow" frame of reference it suits me well for the things I do.
I've never heard much complaining in my sphere of influence with regards to the many activities myself and my buddies like to do. For example;
1. Great mountain roads on which to ride street bikes
2. Great fire roads to ride "in-between" bikes on (you know, those overweight dirt bikes and under powered street bikes)
3. Amazing trails/mountains for dirt bike riding, did I mention they are amazing?
4. Speaking of mountains does anyboby here like snowmobiling? There might be a few good spots for that in the best place on earth.
5. You could probably even find a mountain close by to ski on. (probably not as good as those in europe I'm sure)
6. And dog-gone-it what do we got here at the base of these mountains, LAKES! Not only the finest fishing lakes and streams but incredible canoeing and swimming.
7. At one point I even had to spit out the water I was swimming in because it was SALTY! Strangest thing! But freaking amazing when you pull a 45LBS Chinook out of it.
8. I hear some guys even hunt around here. But I suppose our game is small here compared to those in the Black Forest.
9. Have you ever picked a fresh peach off the tree on a warm August morning and the freaking thing was so big you had to use two hands to eat it?
Well that was only 9 things. Hmmm, I suppose you're right, their probably are better places.
Maybe I should start to pay attention to the Scotsman at work that tells me there's no place like Scotland or my Swiss neighbour who goes on and on about how wonderful Switzerland is. Maybe they're right since I only have 9 things to list. Or maybe I should wonder why they live here instead of there! Wink

Welcome Crunch! And may I thank you for using the correct "straight" in your post?  Smile

I have no doubt that you'll find great roads and great people near where you live! If you want to jump into some great riding early, considering joining us 'mericans down in NorCal for the WCRM V . Anyone's welcome and you'll get to see some of the best riding that the west coast has to offer  Thumbsup

There will always be better places. As for your co-worker and neighbour, if it weren't, you wouldn't have so many North Americans (that includes us) spend rediculous amounts of money to go there and ride.

For the longest time I heard so much about the Cabot Trail. Went there, rode it both ways, its was nice, but it wasn't the motorcycle mecca that I was expecting. Then there is so much talk about the Gap but from what I've been reading recently, that place sounds like pure misery.

Yes, but each person's idea of the "ideal road" is different, so its rather pointless to say which road is "best".  Rolleyes

Welcome aboard Crunch. I'm also from Penticton. You definately have to make it to some of the meets that go on throughtout the year. You must try and make the WCRM V in Fortuna and or the Borscht run in Castlegar. Great times!! Chili Beerchug Hope to hook up with you this year.

Well that was only 9 things.

How about this:
10.  Temperatures above 30 (often way above 30 in the Okanagan) Crazy for at least 10 weeks a year.  (Spring and fall are nice, though.)

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

"Crunch" = the feeling you get when you are braking and your pillion is pushing you into the gas tank.

It might be a little chilly but the sun's out this week and it's supposed to be 5-8 degrees with dry pavement.  I might go for a little spin!
