Yesterday 1/18/08 my new 2007 ST arrived,

I left work early (3:00) yesterday 1-18-08 to rush home and shovel the driveway in anticipation of the ST1300 delivery. Needless to say I was twitchy with anticipation so flinging the fresh snow in the 23 degree air helped expend some energy. Where is he should be here by now. Finishing the driveway in record time I focus my attentions to sweeping the garage to give the ST a fitting welcome, Beeeeeep Beeeeeep Beeeeeep is that the phone, crap I bet its the delivery driver, I sprint down the drive awkwardly loosing my footing on the ice and snow still stuck the gravel cross the yard and into to the house. It’s Randy from Village Motor sports, He is lost and has been driving around awhile looking for the road names on his map-quest instructions. I get him turned around and heading the right direction he should be pulling around the corner in 6 minuets or less. I go out front and stand in the road doing the stay warm aerobics routine while the neighbor peeks out the window wondering what the heck I’m doing. Ten minuets pass and I’m freezing out here not dressed to deal with the wind and cold for this long. I’m expecting the phone to ring any moment with Randy needing redirection again when I see his truck with trailer in tow turn onto my street several blocks east of where I expected to see him. I forget about the cold and wind burning my ears and wave my arms franticly to get his attention. He is driving at a crawl undoubtedly looking at house numbers instead of seeing me in the street a few blocks ahead. Randy finally turns his head away from the house number scan to see me flapping my arms and grinning like a goofball. We back the trailer into the drive without issue and before Randy can exit the cab I am already opining the latches holding the trailer ramp door. (Insert glowing light and angel music here.) The ST is a beautiful sight in the dim light of the trailer, before Randy can make his way to the front on the trailer I m already sitting on the bike looking it over, I knew we would need to compress the suspension to loosen the straps anyway. With the bindings disconnected and me sitting in the saddle Randy says back it out. Soon I am rolling backwards down the inclined trailer ramp with my right hand trying to maintain a slow speed on the slick wet plywood surface, back I go with my feet trying to get grip on the wood the I realize that the back wheel is now on the snow and ice covered drive with the front still on the ramp incline my feet are now several inches from the ground if I stop now I will loose the minimal backward rolling balance I have and drop the bike, so I release the front brake and roll out onto the ice, that was close. While still seated on the bike I try and push against the slick drive to move 700 lbs into the garage and find that I can’t get adequate traction to move more than an inch or so at a time so Randy needs to give me a push into the garage.

It’s home and safe. 12 degrees and snowing today. Think I will internet shop for some farkle.

Congratulations on the new ride as you have to post up some pictures. The only problem is this winter will now seem to drag for you in anticipation of spring riding.

I enjoyed reading that.  Congratulations on the new ST!  I rode one at a demo day a couple of years ago and it was fantastic.  I found it very stable, very easy to ride at speed and at parking lot speeds (great balance).  Glad to hear you kept it upright despite the little bit of a scare there.  Enjoy the new ride!

Killer story Keith! I laughed through the whole thing.  Lol We all remember that feeling. I will get it every time I open my garage to see the bike sitting there too. I am guessing you will be keeping a close eye on the weather. Have fun on your new bike.

Congrats, I hope to join the ST crowd in the next couple of months....  I hope it thaws out for you soon, I can still remember riding through the cinders on the road because I just couldn't wait any longer for spring in NE PA (not a problem any more in SoCal) Cool...
