I am thinking of getting a kit to make my WR400 street legal. Do any of you guys have some ideas on which kit to get? It seems like there are a few kits out there, but I was hoping to get some info from guys who have actually put one on there bike. Any info would be appreciated.

I put a kit on my Wr426. It was a Baja Designs that a guy had removed form a Wr400. I used UFO Oregon headlight/turn signals and UFO tailight/signals. The kit worked well, but if I were to do it again I would keep the stock headlight on it. The stocker is a lot brighter (and is easily modifiable to low/high beem even though it is not wired that way from the factory), although the UFO one is cool looking and has the turn signals mounted in it.

The kit was decent quality, but I only used the Baja designs because I got an outstanding deal on it.

The highest praised DS kits out there right now, and the one I would have purchased otherwise, are from Trick Dual Sport. I would highly recommend them based solely on my experience with the owner. I emailed him with a simple question about power output and within a day he called my home to talk to me and answer all my questions...that kind of customer service with an internet company is very rare. I see their website has been updated since then and is a lot nicer now also.

You can also piece together your own kit from Procycle if you kind of know what you're doing and what you need.

R.Markus, thanks for the fast reply. After I posted this question, I continued doing some research and everything I found confirms what you said about Trick Dual Sport. From what it sounds like, they are the way to go. Now I am thinking of selling my 400 and getting a 450. Man I hate motorcycles!!! Actually, just my savings account hates motorcycles. Thanks again. I have only tried the Baja Designs kit, but I would try somebody else next time.

The Trick Dual Sport kit is what I used on my KTM 520 MXC, and it was excellent.

Colorado requirements being what they are though, it was much cheaper and simpler (much!) to do my own for the XR400R this time around.

The Trick kits are very well thought out though.

Try to find a bike that someone has already done the work on regarding creating a title and converting a on/offroad bike to a "street-legal" package.   Bigsmile

Many Massachussetts residents jump on New Hampshire offroad bikes that are already street legal simply because they get a title AND a street registration to circumvent the system in Mass. Rolleyes

Any states near WA that don't have such laws in place, Mr. Sunshine?

I used the Baja Designs kit, no problems. The first one you make legal is the hardest, it gets easier once you know what the DMV is looking for.
