http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/motorsport/2008/02/04/dakar-rallye/ersatz-ungarn-rumaenien,geo=3674794.htmlTo paraphrase the German article:
"It's official: from April 19 to 26, a replacement rally will be held in Hungary and Romania. This is the start of a new series that was originally supposed to be launched in 2009.
The race starts in Budapest, goes into Romania, and then back to Hungary (finishing at Lake Balaton). Total distance is approx. 3,000 km. Admittedly, this race is not a true replacement for the "desert competition", but at least provides the frustrated participants and sponsors with a venue to compete.
A return to Africa has been ruled out. However, South America is being considered as a replacement, as it is one of the few areas that comes close to replicating the feeling of the original Dakar rallies.
Rally route:
19 April: Scrutineering in Budapest
20 April: Budapest to Baia Mare (510 Kilometers)
21 April: Baia Mare to Sovata (500 Kilometers)
22 April: Sovata (364 Kilometers)
23 April: Sovata to Debrecen (590 Kilometers)
24 April: Debrecen to Veszprem (480 Kilometers)
25 April: Veszprem (315 Kilometers)
26 April: Veszprem to Balatonfüred (213 Kilometers)"
