I was just perusing their site, and wondering--anyone a member?  Anyone see a viable reason for becoming a member?

My only real contact with these folks was talking to a rep at the Vancouver Bike Show a couple of years ago--we had a slight difference of opinion, since the rep seemed more concerned with abolishing helmet laws than in anything that would impact me as a rider.  I came away with the feeling that the BCCOM was a sort of "ABATE of the North."

I see on their site that they've been working to introduce free motorcycle parking in Vancouver, but I don't see that they've been working to legalize lanesplitting (which, IMO, would do more to make riding attractive than free parking).  In any case, I don't live anywhere near the Lower Mainland, and seldom visit, so...

I also see they've been working on getting ICBC to allow a "multiple vehicle plate" system, which would allow us to license multiple vehicles with the same policy.  I'd like to see this, but they don't seem to be getting anywhere with ICBC on it, and I have my doubts if they ever will (ICBC knows a cash cow when they see one).

I'd like to see them working on the problem of police discrimination against motorcycles (yes, I've seen it happen...had it happen to me), but this is one area I see no mention at all on the site.

Anyway, does anyone belong?  And can anyone pose a convincing argument to join?

I belonged for  a few years.  The cost of membership is about $50 and with Megson Fiztpatrick insurance you get a discount for belonging to m/c club of the same value, so it was basically free to join.  The newsletter was pretty boring and with all the lobbying they do, and an organized ride or two, it didn't do anything significant during that time.  Give it a try, maybe it has improved.  One thing that seemed kind of wierd, at renewal time, they never contacted me to keep up my membership.  That just seems odd, like maybe no office staff?  Headscratch
