STN Stoudts Brewery Meet, Adamstown PA

Date: Saturday, May 17th.
Time: 12 lunch or 5pm dinner, your preference.
Location: Stoudt's Brewery and Black Agnus Restaurant
Google Map of the location.  Adamstown is right off of the PA Turnpike in SE PA.

This meet was suggested by Scatch33, and there is some preliminary discussion in his previous thread.

The restaurant, the Black Agnus, is a very nice German steak house.  The dinner menu is $20-$40 per entree, while the pub menu has many options under $10.  I will see if we can use the pub menu in the front dining area as part of the arrangement, as I don't think everyone wants to pay for expensive meals.

Please vote your preference for the reservation - lunch (12-1pm), early dinner (4-5pm), or late dinner (6pm), and give me an approximate head count of the people in your party.  If your traveling with other STN members, please don't duplicate your votes.

Just try to keep it a couple of weeks from Clearfield so I can explain better to the boss (Wife) Bigsmile

Thanks guys, just trying to help out here on the local side.  This is the first time I've helped set up a meet.

I don't know what timing and schedule will work best.  Will most people make it a day ride there and back?  If so, the lunch time makes sense.  If people are going to be coming a greater distance, than Saturday may be a main travel day and the evening would be better.  And, of course, if people want to taste test many of the beer selections from Stoudt's, which incidentally is the oldest microbrewery in PA, then it would make sense not to encourage anyone riding intoxicated.

Also, I don't know whether people will be doing their riding just there and back, or if the SEPA riders should put together routes or group rides, and when those should take place.  There is a mixture of riding environments available, including rolling PA Dutch country and the historic Susquehanna River, to taking a twisty mountain loop up into the Coal Region of the Appalachians.

I voted for early dinner (followed by sampling Stoudts finest ales), but a pub menu option would be fine with me. I will be coming out from western PA (all day ride), spending the night, then riding home Sunday.

I voted a later dinner but could do early if it comes out that way I am too staying the night and coming from western Pa,the menu thing is fine either way. This motel is 2.7 miles from the rest and pretty nice FYI

The Coal Region has some nice riding plus scenery and I have spent many hours riding up there last season so if you need some input I have data.

There is a small family-run hotel across the street as I recall reading in another thread. That's my plan if this all comes together.

If there is interest, it could become a weekend event.  There are a number of campgrounds available.  The Black Forest Inn is the closest lodging to Stoudts - it is right next door.  You can find more Lancaster area info at http://www.padutchcountry.com/ , though Adamstown is also in close proximity to Reading, Berks County, and an hour from Philadelphia.

The Coal Region has some nice riding plus scenery and I have spent many hours riding up there last season so if you need some input I have data.

Yes I've enjoyed many miles up there as well.  It would be nice to put together a couple routes of the best riding in East Penn, and I think the Coal Region would be a good area to include.

I have to go with a lunch thing. I'm flexible but if we do lunch and make it a day trip then there's no problems with my overnighters( at least two planned with Laguna-Seca$$$ and Clearfield topping the list).I try to keep it civil with the War Dept so enjoying my passion is static free.Or I can use one of my defense stratagies "we can argue/fight when I get back".  Burnout

I plan on a Saturday overnight trip and an early or late dinner is fine by me.

Thanks for all the coordination.

Ok I called and made reservations for 20-30 people at 5pm, and said there may be a group at lunch as well.  Spoke with Carole and she said it would be no problem.

Maddjack - I called Black Forest Inn.  The lady I spoke to said, for a group of 5 or more rooms, she could do $55 for double occ $50 single occ.  But she wasn't quite sure about the rates, as she said they change each weekend.  Hopefully it wouldn't be much higher than that.    The Black Forest Inn is pretty old, typical PA, single-story drive-up, ma & pa operation.

There is another Inn at the other end of town that Dave Hogg of Stoudts said he could get us a good rate on, The Black Horse Inn.  Near to that is an old Holiday Inn.  And then 15-minutes away there is a brand new Hampton Inn in Ephrata w/movie theater & bars nearby.

I'm going with the Black Forest Inn (right next door). I'm all about socializing after the days ride and have no intention of getting back on the bike (even for a short ride) once the barley pop starts flowing. Mmmmmm, Stoudts makes good beer...

Will call to make a reservation later today.

Yes that's a good idea,no worries about how much adult beverage you consume before going to bed,no riding involved
