Monday Feb. 18 is a day off in Ontario this year. Trish and I have taken the Friday before off and are loading the new Scrambler into the trailer and are escaping all this snow for a couple of days.

My question for all you Region 6 riders is how far south are we going to drive before we get out of snow/salt covered roads where we can unload and RIDE ? I'm crossing onto Interstate 81 and going south with no final destination in mind. I'm hoping central Pennsylvania will have clear roads as that area  would give us more time to ride and less commute.

I'm scanning the weather network and watching local web cams for conditions but am open to all suggestions. Are there any bike events going on in that area next week-end ??

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You may run across some dry roads(no snow) but the chances of riding on roads free from salt are less likely. We had rain for a few days prior to 2/3/08 and I rode on that Sunday in 50 degree weather. Lotsa wet spots and a ton of salt . My black bike looked great with salty white all over it....lucky for me it was 50 degrees at 3pm so I washed it.

Not sure how lucky you are since I don't know the current condition in Central PA.

You probably need to head south of the Mason-Dixon line (Maryland, Virginia, etc). Roads are bit dirty and salt-covered, especially in the mountains where the better riding is. The coming week is supposed to be typical winter weather (30s for highs, snow flurries, etc), so no chance of a good rain to clean things up.

Roads in SE PA are pretty clean after a lot of recent rain, but now we are expecting some snow again soon, and we've gotten another cold spell.  Currently it's 12 degrees F, wind chill of -6 F.

Next weekend's forecast for SEPA is 30 to 40-degrees with a strong chance of rain for Sunday.  Saturday might be ok for riding, with highs in the mid 30's.

If you go into VA, I see Harrisonburg is expecting a high of around 50 next weekend.
