Yah my first one was also a red 01, after I crashed it , and replaced it with a Hayabusa, but I missed the XX, so I wanted another one, it took me 4 years to find another 01Red XX in Cali for sale, all I could find was the silver 02's , which at the time I didn't like, but now I think they are beautiful!  but then I didn't want any other color, so when i found this Red one I had to have it, I later sold the Busa to buy my ST1300.

I turned over the red XX to my son, it was his first bike, but then we ran across the Blue 01 Canadian spec Blue XX, he had to have it so he bought it and I took back the red XX, but honestly, since I bought my ST1300, i don't ride the XX,
so it's for sale as we speek, a buddy has told me he wants it, so it might allready be sold?

I love the XX's nice and comfy, and their kind of rare, but after turning 44 and taking a ride on a ST1300 and the FJR1300, I'm done with sport bikes, I take out my daughters SV650S when I want to have fun in the hills.

An XX with VFR bars and Buell pegs makes one of the finest, in my honest opinion, SPORT-touring bikes ever to touch asphalt...

Ride with crotch rockets all day long, then spend a few weeks rocketing across the continent & back... Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup

I'll have 52K on mine soon, never been inside a shop...

Did a Saddle Sore1000 last summer with zero comfort issues, play on the famous western Carolina roads quite often, and try to commute on it every day (it's that much fun to ride!)

Good work... I've had my silver'02 for about a year and a half. Genmars, Buell pegs, Corbin hard bags and a throttlemeister and I am good to go. An injury kept me from racking up too many miles last year. That is going to change this year though.

Great Choice!!  I have a titanium '00 and absolutely love it.  Did the VFR bars, peg lowering brackets & a Corbin seat.  Made a world of difference.  Mine came with Corbin bags but I took 'em off and went to soft bags when I travel.

Fast, smooth - and did I mention FAST.

Indeed; those VFR bars actually do an amazing bit of good.  Wish I'd have gotten them much earlier.  As it was, I gave them to my XX's next owner to enjoy...

I never had much complaint about the pegs though, but I'm positive that Buell pegs would have been nice.  Really nice.

It seems to me that the XX may be the ultimate ST rig for the buck these days.  You can easily get into one for $4k, and the mods can be had, brand new, for around $400.  If you really must have a new saddle, they aren't too much either.  Gets good mileage, provides good weather protection, doesn't really eat tires like some bikes, and is smooth and powerful enough to roll through 500+ miles day after day.

Not a great 2-up mount for anything more than shorter trips.  Your pillion's feet will get HOT due to the placement of the peg so near the slipon.  A little cramped (though good for a sportbike) but the saddle slopes forward putting the pillion right on your back all the time; if you're planning on 2-up, you'll need to put another saddle on or reshape the stocker.

I actually found my Hayabusa to me more comfortable for the long hauls than our XX's , but it does make for a  great sport tourer when properly done,  The VFR bars look better than the helis since they look like stock bars, but both have about the same feel,   also only VFR bars off a 2002 or up will fit, and good luck finding them, for under $150, I bought some for $30, and some for $135, just depends on how lucky you get.

My wife was better on the XX, since it has about an extra 1.5" of leg room when compared to the Busa, I would say it depends on how tall and how long of a reach you have, the XX is tall and has a long reach to the bars, if your tall enough, it's very comfortable.

OH and if any one wants one, my 2001 Red XX is for sale.  sorry, it does not some with VFR bars, but it does have the  buell pegs.

True enough, but my experience says the cost for mods are more like $800.00 +.

But, I'm particular about the MODS (SS brake lines, electrical mods (accessory fuse panel to handle heated grips, GPS, accessory plugs for heated riding gear, radar detector, etc.).  Then there's soft bags and bar risers.

Still, it's a heck of a value for a great ST bike.   Thumbsup

Were probably going to ask $5,500, bikes in Cali cost more, it's stock except for a Puig DB shield, Buell lightning foot pegs, 15.2K miles ,the VFR bars have already been removed, and promised to some one else .

You could probably get a Carburated older model for under 5K with higher miles,   they were carbed in 97-98 and I think went FI in 99,  also 97-99 were Black, 2000 Titanium, 2001 candy glory red, like my US bike, 2002 Silver and 2003 was a beautiful metalic Black with a gold flake in it.   and it goes through tires as fast as my Hayabusa did, it all depends on how you ride it, fronts last 10K rears maybe 4-5k

the seat is about 32" ?? my wife who is 5'8" rode mine with no problems,

here's some XX info

Brian...the stock mufflers retain a tremendous amount of heat.  Not so easy to get away with in California, I realize, but a set of slip-ons run really cool.

Brian...the stock mufflers retain a tremendous amount of heat.  Not so easy to get away with in California, I realize, but a set of slip-ons run really cool.

You can do any thing you want in Cali as far as mufflers, we don't have to have our bikes emissions checked yet,

And our other 01 XX has Scorpians, it's exactly the same as far as heat is concearned, the XX's tanks get so hot in the summer their almost too hot to touch, and don't even try touching the frame rails,   my current 01 red is the third XX I've owned and their all the same, my first one was a cali emissioned bike, the last two are not, and there's no difference.

My Hayabusa ran very cool when compared to the XX, I guess it's a Honda thing, my wifes F4I and my ST1300 are all hibachi's , My Busa, our SV650 and my daughters Ninja 500 all ran cool when compared to any Honda we own.

No respect, I tell ya.  The XX thread gets booted out of general discussion, but the two Kwakker threads and the Ducati chat stay on the main page.

Guess we should just go riding..... Lol

yip, no biggie...  Makes the XX that much more appealing to me - the fact that it is often overlooked because it's usually VERY mis-understood by the un-washed masses...  Bigsmile

FWIW, personally I put Ducati in the same context as Harley - very interesting history, beautiful to many, but I have zero interest in owning either.. Razz

You got snow up there still Joe??

I still enjoy the blank look I get from some of the Honda dealers when you mention the bike.

As my dealer said "Blackbird??? CBR1100XX??? Never heard of one, but bring it in and we'll be glad to dyno tune it for you."

 Crazy

I can't tell you how many times i have had the bike fully loaded up (bettle bags, tailbag, tankbag) and other riders come over to me and start asking questions.  Usually, "what IS that", with a smile.  "Thats a '99!!! No way!!!"

Mine is pretty hooked up now.  Heated grips and vest, GPS, Corbin, Yoshi pipes, Helibars, ect.  Still looks sporty though.  Smile

i wish i could say the same thing about my Busa. that thing got WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY too hot. riding thru Custer state park, the frame got hot enough that i could easily feel the heat thru my race leathers. i thought at the time it was the sun baking my pants, but then i touched the frame rail and about burned my hand thru the gloves. not that i am complaining and saying that's why i sold it. on the contrary, i loved the bike, but the "boss" didn't have as much fun on it as on the VFR. which i miss that bike too. sigh. Heat doesn't really bother me that much cause i wear full leathers even in the 100's. sure ya sweat, but i'd rather sweat my balls off than get em ripped off. proved that at the track last summer. but that'a another story. anyways, wish i could ride an XX and see how they are.  Headscratch
