Less than half a mile from the hotel is this campground: http://www.kettlecampground.com/

Don't know much about it, other than it's a lot closer than the KOA, and it's just off a major street (as major as you can get in ES).  This is important for anyone riding back from the after dinner parking-lot stupidity at the hotel - no dark, twisty, deer- (or cougar!) filled roads.

Anyone else have some good suggestions for the campers among us, let us know here.

Looks OK on the website... reservations are apparently made by sending at least one night's fee by snail mail. I'd planned on camping Tuesday night and reserving a room for Wednesday night, but I might just want to camp both nights.

Have you contacted them about having a group? It'd be nice if we could all get campsites next to each other in one block...

Hadn't given it too much thought, because so few so far had expressed an interest.  I'd be camping myself if I were solo, but my GF is not so much into the idea.  Razz

After further review of the website, it looks pretty darn nice. They have a nice bathhouse/showers, wifi internet, inground pool, water and electricity for the tent sites, picnic tables, lots of shade trees and you can have campfires. Nothing like a nice campfire for sitting around BSing and such...   Thumbsup

Tent sites are $18 with water/electricity, $14 without. There's also two cabins situated right in the middle of the tent sites. Cabins have water, electricity, mini-fridge, heat and air conditioning. Sleeps 4 people with one queen bed and one full bed (BYO blankets.sleeping bag). $50.00 per night.

I'd be into splitting a cabin for 2 nights (Tues/Wed) if anyone's interested.

BYW... this campground is only 1500 ft. from the hotel... walking distance.

I've never been to an ST.N meet, but I'm sure that the parking lot party is a lot of fun. For anyone who isn't a huge party animal tho, the campground is a good place to retire early or have a 'quiet place' to hang out. I'm an early-to-bed person, and I'm looking forward to doing a lot of riding in the mornings.

There's only been 3 or 4 others who have expressed an interst in camping. If nobody else is into sharing a cabin, I think I'll go ahead and get a tent site anyway. I'd be willing to reserve a couple tent sites and/or a cabin if anyone else is interested.

If no one else responds by March 1st, I'll just make my own arrangements.  Smile

I would like a campsite, I like the whole campfire thing.  So, if you want to reserve one for me that would be fine.  I will be cooking breakfast, so if anyone camping there wants in let me know.  Usually it is pancakes and sasuage, but I'll need to know how much to bring.

Great!  Bigok

If you look at the campground map here:

http://www.kettlecampground.com/campmap.htm

The even numbered tent sites #2 thru #10 are all on one side, away from the RV sites. There's also a cabin (#2) in the middle.

So far we have 3 people who need sites. I had planned on reserving a couple after March 1st, but if ya'll want to call up yourselves and make your own reservations, ask for one of these sites (or cabin #2) and we'll have them all together... sound good?

Thanks for the info. In another week or so I will have a better handle on my expenses and that will determine whether I camp or not.

Let's see... they have cabins, which is a big  Thumbsup, but you have to provide your own linens, which means packing more. That's a  Thumbsdown.

I'm conflicted.  Headscratch

Linens?  Just throw your sleeping bag on the bed.

OK campers I made my reservation for "T6" (camp site 6), I believe T4 is filled by RoadRat.  Here is the email comfirmation they sent me.  I look forward to seeing everyone there.  I advised Clyde that there should be a few of us there.

Rockford

We have reserved a Primitive Tent Site for you for the night of June 10, departing on June 12,  2008.  The price is $14.00   per night, plus tax for 2 people.   Extra people over the age of 6 are $2. each per night.

We will put your reservation on courtesy hold for 10 days. To hold the site until you arrive you will need to send a $ 14.00  deposit (at this time we are not accepting credit cards) by check or money order to:

                             Kettle Campground
                             4119 East Van Buren

When we receive your deposit we will credit it to your site and send you a confirmation.

Cancellation Policy: Reservations will be held for 10 days from the date made, pending receipt of a deposit. If no deposit is received within 10 days, the reservation will automatically be cancelled.  A refund will be given on cancelled reservations providing a notice is given 10 days prior to the scheduled arrival date. That leaves T2, T8, T10 and cabin #2 on the primitive sites. If we run out we can share sites... I may take Rockford up on his generous offer to share his site so that would leave T4 available too.

Yeah, if it's real beer... I had to quit awhile back for my health, but I still like it. Hard to find a decent non-alchoholic beer tho.  Shrug
