I used to be a big Formula 1 fan, but I couldn't bring myself to vote for it.

The lack of passing finally drove me away.  Sad

That's not to say I can't be lured back.   Smile

I used to follow F1 almost like a religious fanatic. Rob Walker's reports in R&T were like biblical passages to me. Then I dug out my father's older R&Ts and found the wonderful reporting of Henry Manney III. That dude was hilarious.

Hell, I used to follow almost all forms of motorsport. If it was loud and fast, I was there. Now? Not so much. My attention span has been whittled down to only following motorcycles, roadracing almost exclusively.

Oh well.

I follow Reno Air Races... I go every year... in fact I claim it as my religion...

Aren't propellers a thing of beauty and function???

Tempests, Typhoons, Bearcats, or Mustangs, Larry?

Personally, I wanna see a Mosquito do a low level fly-by.

My first love is F1 even with the warts (no passing, obvious FIA bias to the Scuderia, etc.); I cut my racing "fanhood" watching F1 when I was stationed in Belgium back in the day. Also loved Champ Car but it is no more sadly; refuse to watch the roundy round IRL. Cannot force myself to watch any oval series--boring!

WRC also high on my list even though the competition has been watered down in recent years. Oz V8 supercars also entertaining!

MotoGP, WSB, Moto-X are all primo.

Formula 1 - I look forward to every race.

World Rally Cars - forced to look for races on line, but love keeping up w/ it.  I will attend SCCA events when I can.

CART/Indy - I hope they combine back into one body again.

Sports Car/GT - My first true love!  One of my dreams to attend the 24 at La Mans.

Baja/Dakar  - Love it and hope to make a trip to South America to watch soon.

German Touring Cars - excellent form of GT racing, but V8 Touring cars down under is pretty damn entertaining!

Only a Brit would put CART/Indy on the same line.   Lol

On this side of the pond, it's pretty much been one or the other since the split over a decade now.  The fan base split when the series did.  And to get picky about it, CART is actually bankrupt and gone.  Champ Car took over its assets.  Although I first got interested in racing because of Indy, I think you can stick a fork in both series.  I followed CART/Champ Car after the split, but I've officially tossed in the towel.  I still, though, have one now useless share of CART common stock framed in the basement.   Smile

Back on topic!  Been a fan of F1 since I was a child and Jimmy Clark won his first championship.  I can feel myself drifting away, though.

We get replays of the German Touring Car series during the winter off season, so I watched a few of those.  Kind of like NASCAR with right turns.  The manufacturer/team tactics make the races less interesting to me.

Sports car/GT races are great.  I didn't vote for it because I don't really follow any of the series closely.  I think my favorite ones to watch are Speed GT and Speed World Challenge series in this hemisphere.  They're pretty much the only production car series left.

Started to get into WRC and can definitely see the attraction.  It's no longer on TV in the U.S.

Only thing I actually voted for here was F1 because even though I watch other races, it's the only series I still "follow."

200 mile per hour gizmo-laden bathtubs? Family sedans with grocery carrying capacity? Rickety contraptions that attempt to fly through the air where only birds (and freestlyle motocrossers) belong? Why are useless contraptions with more than two wheels being discussed in Pit Row?

Stock cars and muscle cars were IT where I grew up. Run-what-you-brung, no-holds-barred racing is what I like so NASCAR, which was widely available on network television, kept me interested right up until it all went to hell with restrictor plates, 'Days of Thunder' and COT's. I moved on long before I got into bikes but I can’t help but have found memories of those rednecks bashing into each other at over 220 mph.

Now that I’ve seen the light I can’t get enough of MotoGP (Rossi bashing into Gibernau is like Yarborough bashing into Allison x 100!), although I know at some point cost will let rules and politics creep in and destroy that sport as well. I’m also fascinated with the Isle of Mann TT.

I voted for F1 although I wish the results were decided more on the track than in the pit lane.
I catch WRC when I can but I miss the good old days of the Group B cars like the Lancia Delta S4 - turbocharged and supercharged, 550hp in a kevlar bodied 4wd rollerskate that could accelerate from 0-100kph (62mph) in 2.5 seconds on gravel!

Where's ALMS? Does it fall in the Sports car/GT category? I love watching the different classes compete for the same real estate. If I could figure out when WRC runs, I'd be a fan.

Good to have another TG/IRL hater onboard. Read this bit http://deepthrottle.com/Essays/dropped_the_ball.shtml

Great perspective after today's merger (buyout).
