Good restaurants, western SD

Tied in with my "heading to Sturgis" thread, what are some great places to eat? I hate chains, and would rather spend every meal at a great, local place.
For the record, I'm a *huge* steak fan, as well as any other good local places to eat. If I can combine a ride with great food stops, it could be heaven.
Thanks a bunch!

Alpine Inn in hill city is good, but you have no choices but small or large. You get a good filet and salad for around $10. Most people liek Sanfords in Rapid City or Spearfish. It's a local chain and "interesting" but mostly greasy stuff. there steaks are pretty good though. Elk Creek Steak house (I-90 w. of Rapid) is good as is the Belle steak house in Spearfish. Quadalajara(sp?) in Spearfish is decent mexican and Minervas in Rapid is pretty good Italian (americanized italian?). For burgers the sugarshack on 385 (just north of the junction with 44) is great. I'll have to think about the rest

+1 on the Alpine Inn. The German couple that own it are a hoot to talk to. If you are in Belle Fouche (sp?) hit the dumpy looking greasy spoon across from the gas station. They have fried chicken gizzards.

I like Sanfords. I've eaten at Sheridan, Spearfish, Dickinson, and Humphrey's in Gillette. Great cholesterol bomb material; and you won't go away hungry. Stay away if your on a health food, fresh vegetable diet.

some other ideas would be the Sports bar in Spearfish (great steak tips), a lil place right on 385 south outside Hill City. i think it's called the Mangy Moose? err gosh i need to look it up. i love the place for the simple fact that it's cheap and tasty. looks like a biker bar, but i've always had excellent service and leave sated. also, my votes are in for the previous posts. good luck. plenty of us tour guides out here. come on by.

The Hitch Rail in the town just south of Custer, Pringle. It is sort of a dive, food was good, and cheap. It just got bought and I guess it is getting better.

Stopped in and ate at Sanfords last night in Spearfish, on my way to Belle Fourche for work. Good Grub.
