I suspect there's gonna be a few adjustments to the rules here in a couple races...  The ducs look just too strong.

BTW, why does Honda suck so bad?

Some good racing in both races. Seriously bad thread naming. NO FREAKING RACE RESULTS (OR HINTS THEREOF) IN TITLES!!!

And ALL threads having ANYTHING to do with race results belong in Pit Row.

Because Honda didn't deliver the '08 models until the last possible minute.

Geeze,  it really seems like Honda is trying to completely de-emphasize motorcycles.  Non competitive bikes, no new models...

What the hell?

After Valencia, the Ducs will probably incur a weight penalty. Though, to be honest, watching them on the straightaway against the Yams and Suzis, it didn't really seem that they had a real horsepower advantage. At least not when you compare to Stoner's early races against Rossi last year. (Different machines, yes I know -- just using the obvious and very visible horsepower advantage for comparison purposes.)

And, yeah, thanks for the spoiler. I saw it yesterday when first posted in the Duc forum and guessed what it meant. Didn't have to read it for it to be a spoiler. The title said enough. Only question for me was Bayliss or Biaggi...

It was nice to see Xaus up front!

Yea, some weight will be added, Ducati took 6 out of the top 10 spots in the second race. I don't think any of the Ducatis finished outside the top 10. The come from behind by Bayliss in race one was amazing, off the track 4 times, still won, his team manager was loosing it, then overjoyed at the finish. The team of Max and Rubin is sure to keep us entertained the entire season.

Winter is over, the racing season has started!

They said the rule correction will be around Valencia, but I'm not sure if it's before or after that race.  The Ducs were evil out there.  Love the look of Max and Reuben's bikes.  Glad a Duc didn't win the second race as that would surely have had everyone screaming for a huge weight penalty.  I'm guessing 5kg additional weight.  As it stands now the announcers were saying the 1098RS' were running a lot of stock parts due to the weight limit already enforced.  It'll be interesting to see if they have to actually add ballast to the things.

You're a real race fan. Toseland won the WSBK Rider's championship last year on a Honda and Honda dominated World Superbike. These are brand new CBR1000's for 2008 and, as JeffN said, were delivered late. Remember Ducati is the only team in WSBK with a true factory effort. The Japanese all run satellite teams. There is no way I would count out the TenKate Honda.

ST Ryder, nice work on the thread title.  Lol

Anyway that was some great racing all day. WSBK delivers again.

Just finished watching my recordings of the first round in Qatar.

My Impressions? They follow. Read on.

It's far too early too demand a weight penalty for the Ducatis. They were down on top speed to the Suzukis running the main straight and the only reason Bayliss won is because he's Troy Bayliss. In race #1 he was not to be denied, but in race #2 his fatigue could be pointed out. He tried some of his patented "stuff it up the inside" passes but in race #2 he couldn't make them stick and gave up with such moves after only a few tries. This was a good thing as he leaves Doha with a points lead going into Philip Island. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi, oi, oi.

And what of Haga? He got stuffed by Biaggi in race #1, made wheel contact, and in the middle of protesting got himself hurt. Just take a Benedryl, Nori. It's less work and far less painful.

The early part of race #2 between Xaus and Biaggi was hair raising stuff. I loved the post race interviews at the end of the event where the cameras ever so subtly re-positioned so that Max and Reuben appeared to be of the same height.

Three cheers for Fonsi. Once he got in front he did everything he could to stay there.

I don't fret for Team Ten Kate. They are seasoned professionals. Things might look like crap after this first round, but they will not surrender. BTW, wouldn't it be cool if they flew the Dutch Orange?

Yamaha still has work to do, but in Corser they have someone they can trust. We've already spoken of Haga.

Kawasaki? I think I spotted one of the Heavy Industries tankers in the background.

Still no Moto Guzzi sightings. Twofinger

Nice to hear someone actually understands what the word "spoiler" means means in a title. I can't believe anybody would be surprised to read information concerning race results in a thread clearly labled with the word "spoiler" in the title.  Headscratch I wonder if they are equally confused when seeing a "stop" sign. To bad the moderator felt he had to move my DUCATI thread to pit row, as the post was about *DUCATI's* phenomenal success, for my fellow Ducatisti, not the site in general.

"spoiler" under pit row means a race spoiler.

put it under some other category and I have no idea what you're talking about.

What part of "spoiler" don't you understand, *especially* in the Ducati forum and even more especially on race weekend? Smile

Sorry for any mix-up, but I figure "spoiler" means "spoiler" in any motorcycle forum, in any thread.  Smile

It's far too early too demand a weight penalty for the Ducatis.

I have to agree with that statement.  Ducati took 11 of the combined top ten places from both races. But they didn't seem to have a huge speed advantage down the straight.  They seemed to beat everyone in the corners.  To me it looked like more of a handling advantage.  Especially going into the corners.  Last time I checked, engine displacement didn't help when going into a corner.  I suspect, that had the old 999 engine with all of it allowed modifications been placed in the 1098 chassis, we'd have seen a similar result.  Ducati's advantage my well be a much improved chassis that ALL Ducati teams are benefiting from.  Can you remember the last time you say riders like Xaus, Biaggi, and Bayliss ride as hard as they did and none of them toss a bike down the track?

The biggest disappointment in all of this is that there won't be a viable 1098 team in AMA superbike this year to give the Yosh Suzuki’s a run for their money. Sad

Didn't your original thread title say "1098R spoiler"? Anyone checking new posts or the forum index would see this even if they didn't go to the Ducati forum. As a race fan, seeing a title with a bike model listed and spoiler gives me some idea who won. I avoided Pit Row but was involved in another discussion and saw that headline when looking at the index. Just keep racing results content in Pit Row and title the thread appropriately. How hard is that?

The original title had nothing do to with racing, and it wasn't even posted in Pit Row.

So yeah, even with a "spoiler" tag on the original title no one clicked on it expecting to see race results.

Still no Moto Guzzi sightings. Twofinger

you don't make yer comeback in some place like Qatar  Rolleyes Bigsmile

Italians have a sense of the dramatic. After campaigning to have the 2009 Italian round to be moved to Monza, the Guzzi factory will be a last minute entry, sweeping to a super pole, then topping it off with a double victory, leaving the racing world drubbing their lips with their index fingers.

remember, you read it here first.
