Long time STN'r BABOU (Jeff) brought the following to my attention...

Ohio Brew Week Festival
July 14-19, 2008
in Athens, Ohio

This place is surrounded by wonderful roads and we're interested to see if there's anyone out there interested in making a weekend out of this?

We could ride some of the great roads of SE Ohio on Sat and Sunday and enjoy the sampling of micro brews at night.

By the look of the Map of Events, these places are within walking distance of one another.  Ergo, the bikes would remained parked as we bar craw at night!

I'm going to put this on my calendar.  However, it may compete w/ my 15th wedding anniversary.  I'll have to see which weekend the wife wants to get away to celebrate 15 wonderful years (I think you know what I'm talking about).    Bigok

What are room prices like Jack? Got a URL? All the lodging I saw was a mile away near the 33 /50 junction.

If you guys would like me to, I can help.  I live 20 miles from Athens.

Lodging? University Inn is nice, owned by OU, may be on the high end a bit.
Amerihost Inn, conceivably within walking distance, across from Bob Evans and has a pool.

There a couple "mom and pops" too.

I can photo these places or call to block some rooms if you like.

I go to church at the Southern end of ST RT 555.  If there was some interest, I think I could get the ladies of the church to put together a breakfast early Saturday morning.

There are a lot of nice twisties in the area, though not the elevation of say Eastern WV, still a lot of fun to be had.

Let em know,

I would like to help and would even consider being a DD on Saturday night to get you back to your Motel.  I think they block of the street in uptown Athens on Saturday night and have bands.

I checked the Highlander today.  It claims to be 1/2 mile from UPTOWN Athens, yet I clocked about a mile in the car.  OU Inn is about 6/10's from UPTOWN.

Highlander offers the usual for a Mom and Pop, 60's styling, fairly clean, walk out Motel.  Rates = $35. single, $45 = double / double beds.

The other Mom and Pops are the one Garry mentioned a BUDGET HOST at the intersection of US 33 and US 50.  I don't think I could sleep in that place.  There is another Mom and Pop that is about 2 miles from the UPTOWN area.  It is near the WALMART and franchise rests.  Lot's of traffic on that end of town.

$160.00 a night for the AMERIHOST ????  I am in the wrong business.

I've financed some hotels and have looked at several others.  Trust me, it's not an easy business.  Of all the types of investment real estate (hotels, commercial retail, commercial office, multifamily residential), hotels have the most risk associated to them.

Anyhow, thanks much for the snooping around.  I do plan on attending that weekend.  The wife told me she plans on getting away the weekend of the 4th to celebrate our anniversary.

If I read the Athens city website correctly there is public transport avalable near most of the motels, its a buck in the city and $1.25 outside  to ride, might be an option if its too far to walk,I think the OSI and the Holiday are on a line,I wish the mico fest website had more info, kinda sparse right now as far as exactly where the fest is in town.
Babou thank you for the scouting Thumbsup Thumbsup
Doug sorry to hear you won't be there ,hope to see you before ESTN
