Your weirdest/creepiest experience while touring

What is the most bizarre or even creepy experience you've had on a tour?
Back about eleven years ago I was motocamping around the Finger Lakes in western NY on my ratty '82 CX500 Honda. When I came out of a Supermarket in Watkins Glen, a couple of rough looking dudes in an old truck were eyeballing me. I didn't think anything of it, since touring riders often garner looks.
An hour later I was setting up camp at a remote spot off a dirt road where a hiking trail crossed it. The same old truck with the same scruffy dudes slowly drove by. Twice. This was too much of a coincidence for me so I packed up my stuff and went to a campground instead. Even if those guys didn't intend to do anything, I would have been anxious all night and wouldn't have enjoyed myself.

Riding along I-90 in pouring rain. Had been riding in the heavy rain for a couple of days on my old Z1 with poor rain gear. Dr. Zorko and I were wet, a bit hyperthermic and tired and I looked over and through the mist there was a B52 with gear down flying along in and out of the mist and cloud. Honestly, at first, I thought I was seeing things then I remembered that we were near Fairchild AFB and I calmed down.

I stopped at a weird/creepy motel once. I was on the road and after having ridden about 2K in 2 days I was willing to stop at the next motel no matter how sleazy it was.
However, I must admit when I pulled into a small town that had a combination steakhouse/strip club/motel I was a bit taken back. I ate there, and after seeing the clientelle decided my bike was sleeping with me. I got a ground floor room and brought my bike inside and then shoved it against the door.
Bed was so nasty that I just slept in my bag on the floor.

Might have been the Mayor or Sheriff as Watkins only has a population of 3,500 people. Not the cultural center of N.Y.Was raised there and those boys were probably just smoking pot, drinking beer and cruising their domain.Went back for a visit in 96 and nothing had changed in 25 years. If you noticed there isn't a subdivision in the whole county.

That's why I like it around there!
Getting checked out by the same guys in a different and remote place a couple of times was more than I could dismiss from my mind though.

This is was wierd but only by my own doing...
I was at the Honda Hoot in 2006 at a motel right off the highway. On the first floor and able to park right outside my door. I had taken all of my bags, electronics, topcase and put it in my room. I was in and out a bunch of times before I left to go watch "On Any Sunday" and here Malcom Smith talk be fore the show.
As I was leaving an ambulance came scraming into the lot and went to help someone in a room down at the end that caught my attention.
I saw the movie and got to shake Mr. Smiths hand after he signed my program. Exiting the theater a couple I met at registration asked me to join them for dinner.
Arriving at the motel about 5 hours later I pull up to find my hotel door wide open, the lights and tv all on. I think oh sh*t as my heart starts pumping faster. Checking the room nothing was out of place or missing.
The abluance activity total taken my attention and I left without closing the door.
What is wierd about this is as I made the reservation long distance I had no idea what part of town I was in. I was told later that the ambulance and came to get someone who had over dosed themselves. It turns out that this motel had drug dealers selling right out of some of the rooms.
I was lucky, but still very wierded out.

From my ride report:
At one of the gas stops I called Rita and asked her to check for a Motel room in Shelbyville IN. She found one but when I stopped again for gas it was a nice day so I went camping instead.
Rita checked around and found "Fairland RV Park" just off the next exit. I pulled in, paid my 10 bucks and picked my campsite next to the lake. There were some folks parked at the lake with some of the cloth fold up seats. A guy with his wife walked up while I was looking over the place and we chatted (he was missing all of his front teeth top and bottom). He said that he was a biker and that his bike was in the trailer. If I needed some help with my bike he'd be happy to provide it and they wandered off.
I went out and grabbed dinner. When I got back I set up the tent and covered the bike. Again the wooden sidestand plate helped again as I was parked on the grass.
I sat outside on the park table and updated the journal. There were some guys at the lake (about 20' in front of me) chatting and a couple were over fishing on the other side of the van.
After the third mosquito attack (she had to be sucking bone marrow or cartilage; she was in the finger joint) I retreated into the tent and got ready to sleep. It was about 20:30. I shut out the light and got comfortable. After a bit the guys with the pick-up cranked up the country tunes and the party got started. It's Saturday Night in the RV park. About 10 minutes after that I put in my ear plugs and went to sleep.
That worked until just after midnight when a fight broke out. From what I can tell during the drunken fight one of the guys got kicked in the head. He and (picture the sound of a 15 year old fat kid; high pitched yelling) perhaps his wife were yelling that "motherfucker, I want you out". I took out one earplug to listen. There were lights shining and people walking around. At one point the guy asked about my tent but the wife said that "it's the biker" and they left me alone. One of the more interesting comments was the guy yelling that he had a gun too (!). I had my hand on the cell in case shots rang out.
I went back to sleep.

With all that left on most people must have thought you were close by. Reminds me of the time I went on vacation and left the garage door open for a week straight and nothing was missing.

When a buddy and I rode to California a few years ago, on the way back we stopped for a gas/pee break on the way home, somewhere in Arkansas. The lady at the counter seemed nice. I asked her where the restroom was and she told me out back. I went back and as I opened the door to the back area there were about 6 or 7 large "good ole boy" types sitting there chatting it up. They were boisterous and I could hear them even as I approached the door. When they looked up and saw me coming through the doorway ALL conversation ceased. It was as quiet as a library in there. I went to the restroom, locked the door, did my business as fast as I could, and left as fast as I could, not even stopping to wash my hands. I didn't run, nor did I even walk really fast, but I strode with a purpose. When I got to the bikes I told my buddy Derick "If you're going to the restroom, go FAST and lets get out of here. The guys in the back room made me VERY uncomfortable." He lives in Kentucky, and so he thought maybe it was "city boy" jitters. When he came out several moments later, walking with that same purposeful stride I had moments before, the look in his eye said enough. He walked up, and said "Lets go. NOW." I was already fully geared and ready to roll. We pulled out of there and hit the interstate and didn't slip below 85 mph until we were nearly to Tennessee. In case you're wondering, we're both black and they weren't. that was about the most wierd/creepy/uncomfortable moment I've ever had riding.

First summer of riding. I had just figured out what it meant to ride a VFR 700 in the twisties.
It was a perfect summer day and I was playing hookie from work, I think I called and said I had developed the bubonic plague with a touch of dengue.
Any how I was on this gorgeous road going well over twice the speed limit when I noticed what appeared to be a moving rock.....moving rock? Oh crap it's a dam turtle! And why is he so dam suicidal, i moved left he moved left I moved right he moved right and I'm trying my best to slow down well I hit the poor guy, front wheel popped up real high then came down real soft...OK I wasn't dead. Stopped the bike ran back to check on the little guy....oh yeah he was OK just walking his way across the street, so i have him a helping hand. Collected my self got back on the bike and headed down the road, a few miles later again going way too fast screaming in my helmet and giggling like a school girl i see....a peanut? no a bird turd? No bird turds aren't round and why is it heading towards my head.....egg corn egg corn aaaaah BANG right off the top of my head......OK.....I'm not dead life goes on and I think I should definitely head back. Found a gas station did a u turn and headed back, half way back, again smiling giggling and laughing my ass off.....POW! Ahhh I'm dead oh my god my neck! Why is it wet! I touch....oh god it's it's....apple sauce? WTF! What did I do to mother nature? Why? A crab apple had hit me!
I went home and contemplated going veg while grilling up a good ribeye.

What's an egg corn?
Quote
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In linguistics, an eggcorn is an idiosyncratic substitution of a word or phrase for a word or words that sound similar or identical in the speaker's dialect. Characteristic of the eggcorn is that the new phrase makes sense on some level ("old-timer's disease" for "Alzheimer's disease"). Eggcorns often involve replacing an unfamiliar, archaic, or obscure word with a more common or modern word ("baited breath" for "bated breath").[1]
The term "eggcorn" was coined by Geoffrey Pullum in September 2003, in response to an article by Mark Liberman on the website Language Log, a blog for linguists.[2] Liberman discussed the case of a woman who substitutes the phrase egg corn for the word acorn, arguing that the precise phenomenon lacked a name; Pullum suggested using "eggcorn" itself.
While there are several similar classes of linguistic deviation which have been recognised for longer, Liberman argues that the original "egg corn" does not fit any of them:
It is not a folk etymology: it is an error made by one person instead of a community.
It is not a malapropism: egg corn and acorn are homophonous in the dialect in question.
It is not a mondegreen: it is an error of misinterpretation from common speech and does not acquire a new meaning.
[
But I think he might have meant acorn.

A few years back, when I first got the Trophy, Matey Peeps asked me to meet him in Wichita, Ks, for his birthday and eat ribs. So I decided to make the haul, leaving after work on Friday, get there Saturday, eat ribs, then ride home Sunday. Well, work on Friday started good and I rode, so I logged 200mi. before I even started. Got home, changed out of the suit and left for Ks. I left about 7pm.
I had already made a few short stops when I was getting close to St.Louis and needed gas and a break - I was tired as shit, having been up since 6:30 am and worked all day before hitting the road. So, I take this exit on the east side of east St. Louis, on I-64. I turn left and there is nothing, nada, total darkness to the south. So I U-ee and go north. About 1/4 mi. up the road is a well lit gas station, and nothing else at all. Again, total darkness. So I fill up and pay at the pump, then push the bike up to the parking area just in front of the door. 2 ladies working inside, and they don't appear able to protect themselves very much. I go in, get a drink and go out and stand there drinking some pop or whatever. A car pulls up beside me, it's a young couple with a newborn in the back - they seem to be out driving around to get it to sleep. they just sit there.
Then, a completely stereotypical full custom riceburner with fart can car pulls up - it is total gang style. It parks on the other side of me from the young couple. The guy inside doesn't get out at first. He fumbles around in the car, I swear I heard the distinct sound of a gun fall in floorboard. The gets out and stares at me, I just stare back and don't move, he gets back in fumbles around, and I am staring directly into his car. It's got tinted windows, but you can see his outline inside. He sits there for a while, a minute or 2, and finally just leaves. A couple of minutes later the young couple leave, and I go in and tell the ladies to watch out if the car comes back.
A few other strange things happened on that trip, a few deadheads, a blow up doll in leather duct-taped to the passenger seat of the Trophy in Wichita, etc. Basically a weird 1800 mile weekend on the road and very sleep deprived.
