Congrats. That thing looks great. The new engine is supposed to be a lot smoother, too, based on ride reviews I've read recently.

I rode a friends 640 Adventure for a half hour maybe and did about a 45 minute demo ride on the 690 SM. The 690 is like a normal thumper. The 640 is like sticking a paint shaker in your pants.

I'm envious.
So why order the 690 vs the new Husky 610 SM?
I really like 'em both, and I want one - but which one and why?
Inquiring minds need to know.

10 more HP and 10 LBS lighter.
Seriously, KTM parts are easier to get and cheaper even though the bike is more expensive, The KTM comes with a slipper clutch, The KTM has the adjustable mapping so you can adjust for poor quality fuel if needed, I feel the WP suspension is superior to the Marzocchi/Sachs, and the KTM is ORANGE !!
I've had nothing but a great experience with my 450 EXC so I feel the 690 is a no brainer.

OK, so I changed my mind and changed my order to the 690 E. The SMC has 4 piston calipers that won't clear the dirt bike wheels. I want to be able to go back and forth between a SM and DS without too much hassle. I don't mind giving up a little stopping power. I also ordered a set of 17" wheels.

The local shop is expecting a new Duke.
I'm really looking forward to checking it out.
Can you share with the class what the $ was on that package? I think you probably ordered THE perfect DS set up for my needs.
When do you expect to get it? Pics yet?

$8199 for the bike and the wheels are $850. Dealer says June, hopefully it won't be July

Doh! The rear cush drive is a separate part. Turns out that was another $170 added to the cost of the wheels. Still a heck of a lot cheaper then the motard wheels for the DRZ and XR.

I have a dumb question. Is the 690 SMC simply a tard version of the 690 Enduro?

Yes, with the brake and wheel changes Albie mentioned above.
Just to round things out; the "Spy vs. Spy" 690SM is the 690 Duke in different clothing. The E and SMC are dirt bikes where as the SM and Duke are street bikes. All are cool.

Thanks DogBoy. The bikes did look very similar (SM and Enduro). It even appears the geometry is the same too.
This has really got me thinking of getting an Enduro and tarding it.

To clarify - I have the 625 sxc - the dirt version that has an extra set if 17" rims and the break conversion.
I believe the transmission is different rations for the sxc an smc, so I would assume the ratios are different between the duke/sm and the E and smc.
Basically first gear is useless on the street...
