Maybe the two-strokes in the 250 class will go out with a bang, showing the diesels whut real racing is like  Bigsmile

back in the days of yore, when factory MV Agustas roamed the earth, chewing up Nortons & AJS bikes and spitting out the frames, the 500 class turned into a dull parade, as Agostini reeled off 5 consecutive world championships, including 1968, when he won every race on the calendar.

For a time, the 250 class turned into the premier class, with a V4 from Yamaha and Honda's mind-bending inline 6. Maybe, for a brief moment, the 250 class will rise again, showing the world racing where riders cling to beasts threatening to spit them off at a moment's notice.

Then the FIM will write them off into history.

I went to the USGP in 1988, 89, & 90. My most vivid memory is of Rainey riding that thang around turn 4 like a dirt bike  EEK! Hail Chili Clap

The February issue of BIKE has K. Schwantz riding current GP bikes.  There's also a sideline about him riding the Aprilia 250 championship bike.  Interesting perspective from Rainey's nemesis.

I loved the photo sequence of "The Pass" he made on Rainey at the 91 German GP.

I was fortunate to see it on TV. It was an impossible pass....it also showed why he crashed so much. He was on the razor's edge of control.

But boy, he sure made things exciting  Bigsmile
