Mods, you can move this when ya want, but I was hoping for a quick response.

We're buying an 07 Ninja 650 in an hour, and before I tell them to get bent for the extended warranty, I wanted to make sure:

Any 650 owners had any issues where you really wished you had gotten that warranty?

You might search the kawasaki section and see what they have to say. Good luck on the bike. Enjoy

Tell them to get bent. Don't buy the warranty!

Wife had one, rode the piss out of it. Not a single problem. Save the money for a different exhaust and frame sliders.

Rita has a Ninja 650 and hasn't had any problems. She's only put 3800 miles on it since last year though Smile

But yea, I'd check the Kawasaki section or even the Kawasaki Ninja forums.

If you're buying the bike new, you have up to a year from the purchase date to decide on the extended warranty. That said, I wouldn't expect any issues with the Ninja 650. Great bike.

Thanks all!

The is Four, posting on Maggie's account (cause she's got photobucket.).  She's out trying her hand at clutch as I type this.

Leftover 07, zero miles, full Givi luggage and screen.  Woot!

Congratulations Nate and Maggie.  Good bike and it looks really cool.  Looking forward to hitting some twisties with you guys this summer.  As for the extended warranty, you can add that any time while your bike is still in the original warranty period.  Don't worry, you'll get lots of reminders in the mail.  I didn't get it on my ZX-14, and had at least three chances to buy it later.  You won't have any trouble.  Now ride that thing to the coffee meet Sunday. I would but it would take us hours, since I'm totally sucking at the shifting business right now.  It really highlights how easy the Burgman is to ride.

I'll gladly take that thing for a shake down ride to see it there is anything wrong with that clutch and shifter thingy. Lol  Good luck.  It won't take long.

Congratulations by the way. Schweet!!

I was calling around to see who might have a leftover/slightly used 650 for cheap.  Called over to BBK in Elgin, talked to Bryan the owner.

"Yeah, we've got a leftover 07, but it already has this Givi stuff on it.  It's not really a beginner bike."

Really?  How much out the door?  And the rest is history.  I guess he buys the luggage and puts it on new.

I rode it home the 20 miles.  The engine and trans roxors.  The mirrors are teh suck.  Handling is sweet and barely gives up anything to the Burgman.  I'm liking it so far, but it's not my bike either.

Not sure if we'll be there Sunday.  Went out to a German place and are a little drink.  She doesn't want to ride on the Connie for four hours and isn't comfy with the bike just yet.  We might just tool around the neighborhood tomorrow.

Congrats!  The 650R is one of those amazing bikes that can be wicked up to 'Insane Speed' but still maintain a very entertaining character operating within the legal limits.  It's just a fantastic bike.  That it is dead reliable too really helps!

There's a company in Omaha that makes aftermarket stuff for the 650.  My friend got some lower aluminum bars.  I thought putting lower bars on the bike would make it uncomfortable, but it turns out the bike became absolutely perfect after that; and, due to the aluminum bars instead of steel, the vibes at the bars totally vanished.  A very good investment.

There are LOTS of little things you can do to the 650r to make it perfect.

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productlist/523/ is a good stop for a louder horn and mirror extenders

http://greatdaytoride.com/Home_Page.php for a comfort mod for the seat (after a day or two, you will see what I mean).

http://www.ninja650shop.com/?gclid=CMiU7ZLEoIsCFR4cgQodCETzgA for all things Ninja 650

http://www.blueridgeperformance.net/ for more racing/performance related stuff

I love my 650r. Its a good blend of sport, commuter and light-touring rig. Has enough snort to keep me entertained and looks pretty damn good too. Good luck. Have fun. Be safe.

Thanks for the links, Mike!

Loving the bike so far, but it's also been cold enough that I've been using the Concours anyway.  My only real gripe so far are the crap-ass mirrors.  I'll give twisted throttle a look.

Its only a matter of time. Spring is nearly upon us...and none too soon. The weather gods smiled this week on NJ, but I decided to get a raging flu on Monday.  Mad2

No, it's just that there is at least a ton of salt on all the roads around here, patches of ice, more snow in the forecast, bike swallowing potholes, more snow in the forecast, ice, salt... Wash, rinse, repeat.   Bash

Nice looking ride...is the red one any faster than the silver?

 Lol
Dunno.  I've ridden it home from the dealer, and once grocery shopping.  My Connie has the heated gear hookups and fits me like a glove, so I've been riding that all week.  It's supposed to be my wife's anywho.
