Well, as I mentioned in another thread my wife and I got us a Puppy!

Allow me to introduce Audrey, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.

Here she is!

She was super thirsty when we got her home.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j288/rnovielli/Audrey/Day%201/DSCF0003.jpg

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j288/rnovielli/Audrey/Day%201/DSCF0007.jpg

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j288/rnovielli/Audrey/Day%201/DSCF0002.jpg

And Audrey met one of the other Denizens of the House.  Namedly, the Empress Peak-a-Boo.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j288/rnovielli/Audrey/Day%201/DSCF0001.jpg

This ended quickly...The Boo just doesn't play nice with others!

Cool puppy.  Have fun with all the training and that.  I'm not enough of a dog person to get one, as I travel a fair amount for work and pleasure.  I grew up on a farm, but it didn't rub off on me.

No more multi-day tours for you I guess unless you have a good dog-sitter. Even then it's tough to leave because they give you that "You're leaving me?" look.

 She is adorable. Thumbsup

Don't worry about the cat. She'll warm up to the pup eventually. Give it a few years. Lol

LOL!  You guys are the greatest!   Bigok

We have two cats.  There's Peak-A-Boo, my personal cat of 12 years.  She prefers to be called the Empress (and truly she behaves that way).  She warms up to nothing except people and even then she's exceedingly picky.  She defines the term "catty".  Seriously jealous creature.  She has, does, and will sit between my wife and I just so that my wife can't give direct attention to me.  The Boo hates any other creature with a vengeance.  Huge entertainment there when my parents dog comes by.  Boo corners the dog and won't let it move...

The second cat is a stray my wife took in 6 years ago.  Ripley loves dogs and warms up to them in very short order.

So the house is complete!  I expect Boo to become ambivilent of Audrey and I expect Audrey and Ripley to be chasing each other around in short order.

Life is good in the House of K!

Congrats!

Great choice...and she's off-the-scale in the "cute-n-fuzzy" meter.

That one shot of her working on a chew toy (3rd from bottom...) made me remember very distinctly just "how sharp..." a puppy's 1st teeth are.

I have often frozen damp old rags/facecloths for pups to "chew on..." when they're teething.  Works great!

Hey Cheddar,  The frozen rag thing - that's a helluvan idea!  Gonna have to use it!

It's funny, her teeth are sharp but she is so increadibly gentle about her chewing and taking of treats.  Obviously I'm expectant of some change, but I'm hopeful it won't be the same as my parents dog (who was, from day 1, a yapper/biter big time).  And Audrey hardly barks at all - which is lovely!

Scott, as to the socks - my wife likes them and I'm not going to argue!

Great pics Bigsmile

I think my cat is starting to warm up to the dog.  And by that I mean "establish dominance over the puppy".  The frequency of the drive-by clawings are decreasing, but the force with which they are being carried out is increasing.  Puppy doesn't understand yet I don't think.  He'll cower 1 minute and the next he'll rush the cat, thinking it's play time.

Sounds like a cross between your 2 cats Smile

That's a retreiver thing.

One great exercise for her (or any puppy), is to get her to play "grab the rag", where you move the rag or stick rapidly between your hands.  The game is for her to grab JUST the stick, not your hand.  If she nips your hand, YELL like you've been knifed (not at her, just in pain).  Look at her reproachfully and stop the game (walk away).

My Doberman could take a tennis ball out of my hand from as high overhead as I could reach without nipping - very cool.

I firmly believe that a dog's teeth should never be tolerated on human flesh no matter the size of the dog. Unless you're training for protection work which is a whole other thing and requires an amazing level of control.

It wouldn't be unusual for her to find her bark after she settles in to her new surroundings and routine. If she does, you can teach her to controll it. Mine are free to bark until I give them a "Quite". They almost always respond well to that. It's a work in progress.

Regardless, she is a beautiful pup. Congrats and enjoy the quiet while it lasts  Smile
