RIP Gary Gygax

If you don't know who he was, he's probably the single most influential person that lead to most of the online mmos, RPG, and adventure games being played on computers, console systems and table tops across the planet.

That's sad... RIP Gary.
I started with Chainmail and the original edition of Dungeons & Dragons, lots of good memories!

Bummer, I played d&d in the mid to early 80s. Great memories.
I wonder if my 1st edition of the players handbook would be a collectors item now?

Gamer from way back here too... RIP Gary.
And Mac, I think it probably is if it's in good condition.
Back in the day I tended to play Traveller over D&D. I still have an almost complete set of the old half-size books for it as well as a bunch of other stuff (Car Wars, Call of Cthulu, Space Master, Champions and yes, D&D) - just not too easy to find a good group of players any more...

Huh? Would you mind repeating that?
Seriously, sorry about the loss of someone who meant much to many.

And then there was the legendary "Ring of Gaxx"...
Geez, I was in 4th grade, maybe third, when D&D hit the shelves. Talk about a legacy!
RIP Gary.

Hell, I'm gonna play Fallout for the rest of the night in his memory. (Since I was going to anyway)
My wife's office is surrounded on either side by the offices of fellow gamers. They call the distinct nerdy aura the three of them generate the Gygax limit.

I have spent many a night with his games.
Yes a 1st edition is worth money if it is in good shape.

Check at your local comic shop, the real one not the one in the mall.
Also try yahoo groups or meetup. Both are pretty good, but sometimes you have to go old school and go to the store.

Not too likely, but if you had the original tan boxed set of three books,
it might be worth something

I loved Call of Cthulhu, and yes, I played Traveller more than any other RPG. Just the other day I was talking to a friend about Paranoia... I do sometimes miss those games, but I just wouldn't have the time now to play.

We used to play Paranoia a lot too. And another one I stumbled over a website for just the other day, The Morrow Project. I've rarely run into anyone else that has played that but we had a huge group for it at one point in the late 80s.

OMG! I was just thinking of Paranoia!
I've never laughed so damn hard in my life. Many late night's ended up with a pissed off GM as we managed to kill each other over and over and over again.
What a game!

I used to describe it as a RPG game of Logan's Run as done by Monty Python... And yes, almost every session ended with everybody dead, and the mission unfinished.
