It all started just before Thanksgiving, my dad came down with diverticulosis. Had to be rushed to the emergency room, spent 4 days there while they pumped him full of antibiotics. They told us that a small part of his colon would need to be removed, but they wanted to wait until it settles down. Well 2 more trips to the emergency room and the last time they said he needed to be operated on. That was on the 17th of December. Had a lot more removed then the anticipated. And had to have a colostomy bag. We all thought great he would heal and be back on his feat. Well he’s never gotten out of the hospital, or the bed. One thing after another set him back. Staph infection, fluid in his stomach and lungs. He had the fluid removed, but it's back once again. Now his one lung is collapsing. Doctor's are puzzled about what is going on. Got a call from my sister today and told me that Hospice is coming in to talk with us about his condition. And she mentioned that a nurse came in today to draw blood and my dad said no, no more of this. Sounds like He's had enough. I can't blame him. If I was in that condition I would of given up a long time ago. So I need some prayers sent his way. It’s been a very hard time for my family and myself these past 2 ½ months.

I'm not the praying type, but I'm certainly sending out the best thoughts I can. Sorry to hear you're going through this.

My prayers go out to you.

If it means anything to you, my Mom died in a hospice and it was so much better than a sterile hospital room. They went out of their way to accomdate our family and we stayed around the clock.

Gave us a chance to pour our hearts out and say goodbye.

As sad as death is, you know it's coming do what you have to do for him

Best Wishes

I got some shitty news about my dad recently, but not quite as bad as your situation. Sucks. Really really sucks.

So, I feel your pain RBA. Here's wishing for the best outcome, whatever that may be.

I feel your anguish over you dad's condition. My father went several torturous years in hospitals, long term nursing home, dialysis centers and finally back home (his wish) to hospice care and the end. I was there with him, and have never forgotten his last couple of days (much less his last decade).

I personally could never have lasted as long in such a condition, and was actually happy to hear of his decision to put an end to his own suffering. He died with courage and dignity, having made his choice, and with family present.

The people from the hospice organization were wonderful, and their compassion and understanding made the final hours bearable.

Best wishes to you and your family.

sorry to hear about this for all involved.

Nothing like a chronic illness, pain or problem to totally sap one's desire to continue.
